Okay, so I was really F-in Low on fuel. I forgot to get some on the way home the other night, there is a station that is 7 miles away but in the opposite direction I had to go, so 10 miles to make! and Im' already past the red line. So Off I go! Lots of hills too, but thanks to my leet stickshift skills, I still had enough fuel to make the needle dance a bit when I got to the Pump. Here is a pic before I pumped. I have an 18 gallon Rear tank. This bugger is .. well there isn't much left in there. That is about the point where I run out of fuel too. I tried to do it once.
I heard a long time ago, and it seems logical, to pump as slow as you can, to reduce the foam the pump creates.
Waiting...
So, this is where it clicked off automatically.
I let the truck sit for 10 seconds and shook the back, heard lots of room and foam dissipate
Set the pump back on slow and it pumped almost a gallon, and I squeezed it in till it got up to the filler hole.
Do not tell me that filler hole holds 1 gallon, that's an F-in lie.
oh, well hell, i thought you were talking about diesel. i didn't pay any attention to the details of the picture. gas here got down to $1.38 for a week.
I found out the hard way that empty may or may not mean empty depending on what you are driving.
My old 95 F250 gasser I could drive maybe 30 miles or more after the needle went past the red line before I'd run out of fuel. I was in a hurry one morning driving my old 92 Tempo commuter car and noticed I was low on fuel. It just barely touched the red line when I parked it, so I figured I'd be able to make it to the gas station after school (college).
Day is over, get in the car, head for the gas station. Made it all of 1/4 mile and "cough cough sputter cough" goes the Tempo. Had to push it by myself (while steering) into a parking lot.
Called everyone I could think of and what do you know... only my buddy with the Duramax answers his phone. So I got towed to the gas station by a Duramax and never will hear the end of that one from my buddy.
