c0wb0y's new addition to the herd of ferds!!!

Well, this one makes number three for me. Yes, I recognize that I have a problem. This is the "last" one......yeah right

Been looking for a 7.3l, 4x4, cclb, ZF6 ( parameters that had to be met) for a very long time. I finally found one for a HELLUVA deal!!!!!!! It's a one owner truck (2000 F-350) out of south east Texas. 293k on the clock. Needs LOTS of love. Truck has only accumulated 3k miles in the last 15 years. Lots of sitting and lots of mice damage. Interior is surprisingly CLEAN! It leaks diesel and oil from everywhere a 7.3 can possibly leak from. Front end needs a total rebuild. Needs a paint job. It had a subpar paint job in 2016 along with a new clutch and throwout bearing. Truck has good bones and I believe lots of life left. So, here goes my build thread.....I know yall like pics!!

Well done sir! I look forward to the journey this truck will take with you as the new owner.

I know you have been looking for a while now and have passed on a couple that just didn't feel right.

Congratulations!

Agreed ya got a solid truck there. Some typical hackish wiring "repair" but yeah, good bones.

What are your plans?

fix everything that needs fixing. Get it back to ground zero so to speak. Turn it into a reliable daily driver.

Really nice find! Yeah, I think it looks to have good bones like you said. This will be fun to watch. Just from experience on two trucks now that have sat for awhile, do not be surpirsed if the fixes go deep for a little while. Not to throw shade at all....just been there a few times. You'll be the perfect owner though to give this truck new life for sure!

Thank you sir. This will be the second one I’ve owned that sat for awhile. I’m no stranger to the problems they can have. Took me about two years to work all the bugs out of the last one. I’m super excited to start this one!

That is a solid plan and we all have confidence in your ability to get there.

Do not forget that if you run into a head scratcher, most of us have been there and can help you out. If you need torque specifications or anything out of the ordinary many of us have access to the Ford Service Manual if you cannot find what you need in the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder.

As for cleaning up the paint, if you don't have a favorite product to use, I really like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound as a base and scratch remover. I have used this on many applications and bought a box of 8 bottles a couple of years ago I like it so much. A clay bar treatment may be in order, but that is up to you to decide.

I recently started using a high shine Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax as a protectant since it cleans up easier than my previous choice of products. It seems to do well, but I don't have enough road time to give an honest opinion. I saw another FTE'r using ceramic coating spray last year and I had always had an interest in the process and protection values. I picked his brain for a bit and decided on the same product that he was using.

Turtle Wax ceramic spray is what he was using and recommended and after the first use, I can say I like it. Just like the wax though, I don't have enough road time to form a solid opinion on it, but after just one use it is a nice product that I feel I will continue using, or at least one similar to it.

Have fun with it sir, that is what it is there for!
