Front axle outer seal install tool

The hub seal on the driver side of my 2001 f250is wasted and there’s apparently a special tool neede to drive it into place on the stub shaft. The actual tool is like $80, and it looks kind you can hodge podge a tool together out of plumbing fittings for about $30. I’d rather use the correct tool, if I can. Does anyone know if autozone or a similar place loans that tool out? If not, anyone in north jersey have one I can borrow? Ticks me off that I have to spend $80 to install a $25 seal.

thanks

You will be hard pressed to find the "tool" at a better price than that.

You can post in the 99-03 7.3L forum and see if anyone has one to loan you.

Many of us cobbled together the home-made tool with great success. The hardest part was getting it ground down to the correct diameter. I took it to a machine shop and they did it for a couple of bucks.

Ok, that tool was 100% worth it. A few whacks with a hammer and the seal is perfectly set, and a few more whacks and the axle shaft is perfectly set in the knuckle bore. Money well spent
