Tire Trouble
Evening folks. I bought some Ridge Grappler 37x12.5x20 on Black Friday from discount tire. They finally came in, went down to the shop to get them installed and they wouldn’t install on my factory 20 inch rims.
Have you guys seen/experienced this before? They said the min from Nitto allows for install on an 8.5 inch rim. I guess the factory lariat ultimate 20 is only 8 wide?? Help...

Sorry no help is available. You will indeed be fortunate to find a tire shop that will install a tire that is not IAW with the manufacturers written published instructions. In today's litigious society you are just SOL. Maybe buy the tires and find a small shop that will mount them for you who does not care. Get on the phone and start calling tire shops.

The OEM wheel is 8 inches wide and a 12.5 wide tire advises an 8.5 inch wide wheel..... Now many on here have mounted a 12.5 on the factory 8 inch wheel but you're going to find that big chain places don't want to take the chance and go against manufacture recommendations.
Find a small local shop and I bet they help you out.

I run the 11.5 inch wide Nitto's on my OEM wheels and went with an after market wheel for winter use with 12.5 tires

This topic has run round and round. There are many people running 8.5 spec tires on 8 wide wheels. I’m one of them.
It’s possible the tires will experience premature wear. I’ve run .5” out of spec tires for years and never had an actual issue.
I’m running 37x12.5 on factory wheels and plan to do it for the next 150,000 miles.
As others have said - go local and you should be fine. Big box these days won’t even mount tires that are not spec for the truck, let alone for the wheel if they can figure that one

Just take them to a local tire shop, they'll throw them on without a word. The difference between 8" and 8.5" is not going to make any measurable difference. Discount Tire wouldnt mount my General Grabbers for the exact same reason, I went across the street to Jose's Tire Especiale and he threw them on for $40 and I was on my way in 30 minutes.
