Blowing white smoke and running rough after glow plug install

hey guys,
my mate has just come and seen me about his f250.
Hes had the glow plugs replaced at a dealership but now it’s running rough.
I have a feeling it’s going to be his wiring harness under the covers. Is there a way to check this before we go ordering parts.
Many help would be appreciated
cheers guys.

Yeah sounds UVCHy. Buzz test via ForScan (or app of your choice) on his fave android device.

Or take it back and tell them it's running rough since they "fixed" it. Dealers have reps to preserve, exploit that.

Could also check for continuity through the 42 pin connector and the UVCH.

I had the same problem when I did my glow plugs last year, maybe 2 years ago, turns out I knocked the injector clip loose when I re installed the valve cover. I pulled the cover back off and saw the issue fairly quickly.

Cheers guys
i think I’ll get under there myself, it seems I know more about these than the dealers here anyway.
The dealer first told him it didn’t have glow plugs, then said he googled it and yeah they do. 😑
i tested his GPR and found that not to be working either when he couldn’t start it. I swapped the wires to the intake air heater relay to get it going until I order a new one.
Thank guys.

Bench test the gpr. I thought mine was bad because the gor led mod wasnt lighting up. Come to find out, the pcm wasnt sending the ground signal to it..put my own ground wire on a switch and bam..led lights up

Your buddy changed out his glow plugs (sDealer changed out?) and then found out that his GPR was not working.....
So.... 'Why'... did he think that he need to change out the glow plugs... ?
Because the GPs were not coming on???

Och...

Am I missing something?

Maybe a glow plug broke off in a cylinder and they didn't say anything. Check for excessive blow-by at the oil filler cap. You can also do a relative compression test pretty easily.
