i was having the standard cold weather smoke, i changed the relay and no fix. i shot all the wires and had one on the left at open, all the rest were .7 or.8. i bought 4 motercraft glow plugs frum auto zone $45. i spend two hours changing all the left glow plug(if i am pulling the valve cover i am changing them all) was pretty easy, the post on tools needed is right. thinwall deepwell 10mm 1/4 drive,i bought the thinnest one i could find and took my dremel to it. 13mm short, dosen't need to be a thinwall but the thinest one you could find for the back bolt, also a midd length or deep well 13mm for the three studs on the cover. the intercooler clamps are 7/16, i used a ratcheting wrench on the lower clamp. i will wait till tommorrow to see if it works good now, will post results.

Rusty,
How much smoke were you getting with one bad glow plug? I've got one that is bad, but I think I've got way too much white/blue smoke for only having one bad.
Thanks in advance,
Craig
i had enough to cause a small smoke screen until it warms up and the cylinder is working to its full potential.
i took from the post that you had seven glow plugs that weren't working to their full potential, while there was only one helping. correct or am i "bass-ackwards"?
just the opposite, i had 7 working fine and one not working. if i had 7 not working i would kill my batterias before my beast would start. i've had 4 bad before and it was bad time every time i tried to start it in cold.
well this morning it still did the same thing, smoking when cold. i shutit off and rechecked all 8 plugs all good, so plugs and relay are good. any ideas as to why it is still doing this??? no power mods, batteries 1 year old, 10w30 oil for winter 100 miles one it and it is still clear as when i put it in. no smoke when pulling, gunning it or smoke when starting when warm. i pulled teh oil fill cap when running and it did have smoke coming out, but how much is excessive?
I've been told that I may have an injector with a bad oring. Difference is I get a little smoke when I get on it real hard. I also think I have a thermostat problem and it is not warming to operating temp completely. I guess this doesn't really help you much.
Are you sure the glow plugs on the other side (bank of cylindars) are working? I have seen one that when power was put to it on the bench it did not heat up even though it tested fine on the meter. I don't think that would be real common.
Craig
i am thinking the same thing. i might change the right bank and see what happens. cus it sounds like a glow plug problem stil. cause no other smoking problems.
