After Market Intercoolers?

Just blew out my stock intercooler towing less than 3500 lbs. at about 60mph. Sooo I am trying to find out what any of you with after market intercoolers think would be the best replacement one. Or anybody with a thought about the best one. The hype and prices are all over the place. The truck only has 90k miles on it.
Thanks for any input here.

first question we would have for you is which intercooler are you referring to? as this truck has a few of them.. Oil, air, and transmission has one before reaching the external cooler. if your referring to the engine oil L2L intercooler, most will recommend the factory upgrade version.. the transimission intercooler is built into the bottom of the radiator before passing onto the external one (factory radiators fine but some upgrade to michimoto).. the Intake air cooler, can depend.. the plastic end caps are known for failing but is still a good option. Michimoto, Banks, AFE and BD diesel all offer aftermarket ones. i havent heard much on BD diesels version but i wouldnt buy from them anyways as i could never get an answer out of them when i tried asking on some of their other products.

Thanks Sparky83. Yes it is the intake air intercooler and yes the plastic end blew off. So I don't have much faith in the oem ones anymore. Just looking to see if someone has had good or bad experiences the brands you mentioned. I do have an oem one in it now that I got used from a wrecking yard. Physically it is in very good condition, but?
Thanks again.

the issue with the plastic end caps is that the plastic can get brittle over time. new theyre rated to hold up to 100psi... but a few companies have pressure tested them and found even new they can blow apart at 90psi... Michimoto tested their welded aluminum ones and their compressor ran out of air before it topped out... if i remember the article right they could only get the pressure up to 135psi.. which is well more than most people will ever hit with their turbos... i havent had to change mine yet... but figured if i do itll be either AFE or the Michimoto... more likely to go with the Michimoto..

I installed a CSF 6013. It's an all aluminum welded intercooler with the same tube and fin design as the stock intercooler. They also make a 6028 which is a bar and plate design. Supposedly more efficient but also doesn't allow as much air flow to get to the radiator. Either one I think would be a suitable replacement and an upgrade from the factory intercooler as far as durability is concerned.

I have been told that there are two different Intake air Intercoolers for the 6.0L PSD. Anybody know for sure? Evidently the 03 and 04 are different than the others.
Thanks for any help here.

I pressure tested mine mine just because it was a returned cosmetic damage one and had a dent. Tested fine and got it for $90. I think a new unblemished one would be good to go. Easy enough to pull if you find it has a boost leak.

Installed yesterday. Took about 3 hrs. Not hard at All just took my time. Gave the radiator and tranny cooler a good washing with some simple green and cleaned up the battery tray on the drivers side. Truck runs good. Thanks for all the help.
