Curious question (license plate bracket)

Since I'm new to this generation of F 150, I've been looking at pictures and one thing makes me wonder. Why are some front plates in the middle and some offset to the left? Mine is left of center over the black part. Does it have something to do for more cooling for maybe a tow package, or maybe for the ecoboosts?

Your thinking is correct about the EcoBoost, it is so more air gets into the air to air cooler in front of the radiator.

Mostly correct.

It's for airflow over the intercooler, not the radiator. The intercooler sits behind that opening and isn't behind the main grille at all.
