Bully!

Never really liked the nerf bars I put on the brown truck. They were generic fit DeeZee units which were frame mounted and telescopic. They never gave me a secure feeling-every time I stepped on them, they’d flex, and I was worried that one day they’d simply give way.

Anyway, I pulled those suckers off and installed a set of Bully steps. They seem super solid-no flex-and I feel secure stepping on them

I like em!

Do the Bully steps bolt thru the rocker panel?

If so check to see if the rocker panel flex’s at all.

I like the steps and my truck had a set on it when I bought it. Wasn’t the bully brand but similar. What I didn’t like about mine was they bolted thru the rocker panel area and it would flex a little when you stepped on it. So when I had the truck repainted I had them removed and the holes welded up.

I found a set of new in the box nerf bars/steps for a ‘80 to ‘96 F150 I think was the years. I made new mounts for the tubes to fit my ‘77 and didn’t have to drill the frame or nothing and are super solid.

Papa
Can you post a few pics showing the mounting of these Bully steps.
Looking to add a set to my bone stock 75 Highboy and am curious how the install looks from the underside.
Thanks

Forward mount

Rear mount

Back side

Outside, from underneath

Installation was super easy-drilled four holes. I did snap off a bolt when torquing down, but I plan to replace the hardware with cad plated grade 8

Also, no flex! Even when I throw my (near 300 lb) self up there it’s rock solid. Very happy with them so far

Looks good, I've been debating a set of these for my 78, primarily for the wife, since it's going up 4" and on 35s. I've worried though about flex, and thought about making some additional reinforcement plates to go with it to better carry the weight

Before you reinforce these, consider the engineering. The mounting bolts are primarily load carrying. When you step on the cantilever platform, the rotational force is:
1) applied to the floor of the cab
2) is inclined to push the top out

I’ve read other reviews here of men approaching 300 lbs using these steps without flex. As long as the bottom of the cab and the rockers are in good shape, you should be ok.

Four inches of lift and 35s might change your attack angle a bit, but I think you’ll likely be ok

I've never been a fan of those steps but if you're gonna do it, consider tying em back (triangulating) solidly to the frame.

Personally, I think step bars are better for overall utility and appearance.

I've been debating whether or not to get steps or bars for my Bronco, but my concern is less about looks and more about whether or not I'd get them hung up on something while wheeling and rip them and whatever they're attached to off the rig. I don't really need help getting in, but my wife (5'1") and kids do, so for now I hoist them in myself.

Once mounted, how far down do they hang from the truck?

I have the same steps on mine. They only hang down 3-4 inches max. I can measure when I get home if nobody beats me to it.
As for those who are worried about how solid they are- my brother is 425+ lbs and they held up fine. The sheet metal seam they bolt to is two layers thick plus the bend at the bottom of the seam gives it even more strength.
