What do you guys think of the amsoil equivalent of the LV? Blue top bottle. I've always used it in my 05 and 06 superduties without a problem. I have 7.5 gallons of it at my house and would like to use it up.

The Haynes repair manual IS a mistake. I do not trust it for anything beyond lining a bird cage.

If you want a useful manual look at http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r=

hi Mark, I love having you on this site. I know you've been out of ford since before the 6r140, but do you think the low viscosity amsoil is a good alternative to the lv? And will they mix if i do a drain and fill with it?

my advice, contact Amsoil (amzoil).. ask them what they have that is comparable with Ford's "LV"...

and what might happen when they "MIX".

Valvoline Maxlife ATF is good for LV applications, reasonably priced at just about every Walmart you could find.

Merc V is an upgrade of the old Dex/Merc type fluids. It starts around 7.3cSt vis. The LV is the low viscosity version of said fluids. While not exactly identical, it's darn close enough that your trans won't know the difference. Hence why Maxlife covers all those specs with one fluid.

when I did my trans oil change just 5k ago I used Mercon LV, dealer confirmed the amount and using LV, also there is a great youtube video about changing it, and LV also expands when it heats up, so make sure to fill it most of the way and then check the level and keep addng it when the trans is warm.

Amazon Amazon

in my notes I had 9qt, but I believe I started with 8, when I dropped the pan it was roughly 7qt that came out I do believe.

Pretty sure I started 8QT and then warmed it up and then kept adding to it until it was the middle to middle high on the stick.
