300 to 302 swap. ??
I am wondering what else I need to change on my 83 f150 to go from the 300i6 to the 302. The 302 is out of my dads 1960 starliner but is 1986 fox body spec and carbed. I already have the different mounts, 302 radiator, 302 bellcrank for my 4 speed, I will do the exaughst myself, already have different oil pan and flywheel. Also, how much do I have to change the ignition system that's already on the truck ? Am i missing anything ? Any little thing will help.

Anything that rotates needs to be balanced. Unbalanced engines will vibrate.
Some engines use external balance which is applied to rotating parts outside the crankcase. The Ford 300 6 does not need external balance, so it uses a neutral balanced flywheel. The Windsor V8's use external balance and this is where you can run into trouble. The Windsor engines and the 300 6 all share the same bellhousing bolt pattern and crankshaft flange, so flywheels will physically interchange. The 302/5.0 was built in 2 versions with the split around 1980. Earlier engines used 28 oz/in balance and later engines used 50 oz/in. The 351W/5.8 used 28 oz/in balance.
This means you have 3 variations of the flywheel and it is important that you use the correct one. It also is important to use the correct harmonic balancer for the front end of your engine.

It will shake like crazy if you use a 300/6 flywheel. Somebody mentioned on here not all that long about the experience. Post #39 linked here.

Imbalance, and ring gear count, and clutch size are factors. Read through this to (hopefully) make sense out of it. This posted at the top of the SBF forum. Good luck with your swap.

Then it is definitely an imbalance flywheel. Just need to confirm that it is 50oz. Did you could the teeth? If you purchased it for a 1983 302, then it *should* be the correct one.
I just removed a 50oz 164 tooth flywheel from the 302 in my '84 F150, but I don't have it here with me now. I took a bunch of this stuff to my shop at work, and will not be there for a few days now. I can take a picture of it for you, but not until the weekend.
