Is this a normal amount of metal on my transmission pan magnet?

So I just did the huge transmission pan upgrade and I also did the D solinoid upgrade along with the metal dummy plug and 6.4L filter. Amazingly it took 16 qts of Valvoline Max Life synthetic fluid. Highly recommend these upgrades, it's behaving like a new transmission. I barely notice the modded D solinoid shift bump if you want to call it that. Anyways I was having big problems when the the tranny was hot before I did these upgrades and the magnet had a good amount of metal on it. I had about 50k miles on the fluid and external filter.

Codes I got about a month ago.
50k miles on this fluid

I can't tell you if that's a lot, as I've only dealt with my own transmission. But I recently did the same 08 pan and filter on 45k mile fluid and I didn't have any of that metal on the magnet in the pan I replaced. I only had a thin film of darker stuff that wiped off with a rag. Not sure if that's good or bad.

There's no good database of quantity of metal on the magnet from an enthusiasts perspective, but someone who does a regular repair on the trans might have a good perspective.

From my trans pan video images with my truck, 200k miles without ever dropping the pan, lighter use of the truck then many. There is a good possibility that most of the wear debris is from the initial burnishing in of the friction and steels if a trans clutch pack performs in the same manner as vehicle brakes, polishing out any machining peaks to attain a smooth surface.

Personally I think 50k miles on the fluid/filter is too much. Ford states 30k (for the original pan and filter set-up).

That's about how much metal I'd expect in the first 50k miles of a transmission.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your magnets, just to clarify I did not do the 6.4L pan. I got this:

Derale 14208: Transmission Pan Cooler Ford E40D/4R100/5R110/5R110W | JEGS

Just saying it was from the vid, the pan is basically the same, especially the mag.

You just reminded my of one concern I have about the new Derale pan is that it has a magnetic drain plug only. I had thought of moving the original magnet into my new pan but got sidetracked and left it out. The drainplug magnet is super strong though. Probably over thinking it.

The nice thing about that set-up, is that if you were to just do a fluid change, which is something I plan to do in between the new filter's 60K change interval, the material comes out with the plug

So far so good, can't wait to find a big hill to see if it helps with keeping the temperature down.

I usually cause enough trouble that I wasn’t going down that path.

Isn't it about 10quarts with the factory 6.4 pan or is it more?

I don't know about the 6.4L pan but I put in 12 qts and the dipstick was bone dry after a quick test drive.
