Question Help please (no start)

Hello,
this is what I have and where I'm at.
1993 F150 put in 5.8 to replace a 5.0
The 5.8 came out of a 1995 f250
Timing set at tdc ( triple checked)
got power to coil
Got spark
Can hear fuel pump and smell fuel
Checked wire placement and firing order many times
Put in a new computer for a 1995 5.8
Using the wiring harness for a 1993 5.0 (so all wires would match up)
brand new distributor, cap, rotor, wires
got it to run but was rough as hell so I tired messing with the timing and nothing helped, put in a O2 sensor hoping it was two rich and the computer would fix the issue
Now can't get it to start acts like it wants to but just doesn't go...
I tore it down to the timing chain to check timing and all is dead nuts tdc...
Still just acts like it wants to go but doesn't...
Moving the distributor stops it from trying to start or trying to start... But it is way off of tdc for it to try to start...
Deleted the smog and AC
I am at a loss and end of my wits... Please help...
Thanks
Keith

Just notes:
A 1993 uses a push start Ignition harness, push start Gray ICM & a push start Computer (PCM).
A 1995 uses a CCD Ignition harness, CCD Black ICM & a CCD PCM Computer.

So to use the 1993 harness you need to rewire the IDM wire going to the PCM and change the ICM to a Black ICM.

Remove the start wire from the ICM (NU in 1995) and put the IDM wire there.

Also the 1993 5.0L uses one O2 sensor and the 1995 5.8L uses two O2 sensors. This might be your biggest problem.

Sounds counter intuitive but you may want to try the 93 pcm. Ford had a habit of swapping a wire here or there across years, could be an issue for you. 93 truck with 93 harness probably needs a 93 PCM. If that does it, then worry about 5.0L vs 5.8L PCM.

it wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure either. Did this 5.8L run before being dropped in or is it a rebuild? Was the 5.0L truck running before the swap?

The 5.0 did run but needed alot of work, 5.8 They say it did but still tore it down to replace all the gaskets.. 5.8 has only 90,000 miles on it, but wondering about that because of how nasty it was compared to my 5.0 with over 200k on it...

Without looking I think the start wire goes to the PCM in the 1995 5.8L.

Are you saying I should use a harness out of a 95 truck? With that I believe where it plugs into the main harness is a different amount of wires. the 93 has like 30 and the 95 harness has about 24... Would it just hook up to what it needs? Thanks

I have been looking at ICM's at the auto parts stores advance/autozone and they say a black and grey are the same.... You wouldn't happen to have a part number for the right ICM. And where can I find a diagram to find those wires? One last question what do I do with the start wire? does it need it.. Thanks

They are not the same.
The gray and the black ICM require two different PCM computer and the engine wiring is different for the two type of ICM's.
Just ask for a ICM for a 1995 Ford Mustang with a 5.0L engine. The you will get the right Black ICM for 1994 and newer Trucks.

Thank you very much for the input. I'm going to get right on it in the morning... Will let you know how it goes...do I need to attach the pip a to the pip b or will that be done automaticlly. If you know how would I add a second o2 sensor can i?
Thanks Keith

I think it is already spliced in both harness.

Not sure on that one. You could have a new port welded on the exhaust and then wire it to PCM. I can not think of the right name for the port.
