P0359 - best method to determine which coil is bad
2001 Ford F250 - V-10 of course. Throwing a P0359 bad ignition coil code. Problem seemed obvious at first...front driver's side cylinder...the bolt holding the coil down was broken in half and flush with the intake manifold...so a couple of attempts at extracting it and welding on a washer and nut resulted in drilling out the hole and retapping. Replaced that coil on the suspicion that is was bad. Cleared the codes. Same misfire. Same code.
So...the good news is I don't think it's that coil. Which probably means it's one of the others...which means I will probably end up breaking some more bolts.
Darn thing is I just had the dealership replace all the plugs. It really pisses me off 700 miles after the dealer has the coils off that a bolt breaks and a coil fails.
I have a spark plug light...boot on one side...are those safe to use on coil over plug applications? I saw some stuff about checking to see if I have power on the red and green wire.
Thanks for the assistance!

#9 coil on a Ford V10 is not the front driver side, that is #6. That side numbers 6-10.

That or the truck fire we had last year when the rear main blew oil on the exhaust.
Dead on the money. The plastic snap is missing from the connector. I rigged something up with zip ties for now...anyone know where to source a replacement short of a junkyard? The dealer already told me when we had the truck fire that replacement electrical wiring harnesses and bits are no longer available. Maybe I will call Painless...
Cleared the code... guessing it won't be back.
Thanks!
