Some pics of my SPRING project - it's a 38 (ish) Ford F100 that sits near our cottage. Not far from ot (on my FIL's farm) is an '85 351 Windsor and rebuilt tranny to go into it...can't wait!
Any advise on putting these two together? I'm not adverse to shortening the box and cutting some height out of the roof - rod style.
Quick update - My engine source is onto his second engine, magnufluxing them to get a good one. Hopefully available end of Feb so I can get some time (around that "Other" project and my real job!) in on it before summer comes!
FOMOKO (Morris) may have a line on a complete engine for me - I'd love to have a spare and Might need it if the other project takes any longer!
Cheers!
FINALLY - I at least found a "SPARE"! The Sask/Man moderator, FoMoCo (Morris) had a 51 truck that he wasn't doing much with, so was nice enough to sell me the running engine. We pulled it out on a Friday, I cleaned it up on a Saturday and put it in my shop on Sunday - ready for some paint. Need to figure how to attach it to my '46 3-speed case.... Anyone?
Brought it home in my Caravan....I know - MOPAR - yuk
I'm still trying to source a 46 Block from Keith Lee @ Jitney, put it's been slow going. This will give me more time to get that one back together. If there's one thing I hate, it's non-running vehicles in my yard!! Plus I use the Merc quite a bit all summer - for dump runs, pick-ups, fun rides with the boys...
Here she is all cleaned up. There was a good 1/2 inch of crud on it, which I scraped, then washed with thinner, then Spray Nine, then pressure wasshed to get off...

You need a bellhousing for that flathead, then your tranny should bolt right up, maybe, I'd have to see your tranny but you still need a bellhousing.
Morris - remember when we where counting head bolts and wondering about sawpping heads? Well I see here that all the post 38(?) blocks had 24 bolts. Prior to that 21. I know there are some water jacket differences, but I guess they are minor enough to allow head-swaps from the various 24-bolt-year blocks.
One manifold came off in pieces....not sure why???
After much wiping with Pre-paint solvent and removal of several accessories...
Buffed fuel regs and painted intake Alumi-blast (Eastwood)
Polished the carb:
Colton LOVES IT!!!!!!
After a couple days drying, I'll bolt all the parts back up. In the meantime I'm going to rebuild the 3 spd tranny. At the very least it'll get a set of bearings and gaskets, but I'll also check everything else and repalce as necessary.
Tomorrow I'm heading east to look at some early blocks - hopefully I can find something for my original!!
Yup - manifolds are the same. As are most of the externals. I'll just be happy to get it running again!!
I was at a swap meet today and there was a set of heads for a 47 and earlier flathead. I didn't think till after I was home that you had been looking for some. If you want them I will see if I can track them down.
When I was looking at your pictures the first thing I noticed was each cylinder was still nice and black with carbon so I figured the crack was deep in the block and not getting in the cylinders. Man that sucks something awefull. Beautiful truck by the way, that front end is a work of art! Good Luck getting her back on the road and kudos for sticking to another flathead.

Thanks but I have heads for all of them!
Chris - The bells you had are from a truck HEAVY DUTY 3 spd tranny (likely same as was on Morris M350 we got the engine from). Apparenlty what I need is a 4inch wide half-bell (top portion). Keith sells these for $60. I'll bring your bells back this week. Thanks again though for the help!
