Got 2 blocks from another of Morris' contacts. We went out and pulled them from a dark shed, dragged them across a big ice puddle and man-handled them into the van. Once I got them home and cleaned up, I found one to be useless (heavy cyclinder rust), but the other may still be OK.
Guess I shoulda looked a little closer. Oh well - worth $50bucks as scrap (I've heard....!)
Here's the 53 mostly back together now. I'll freshen the tranny, get that bell-house part from Keith, put 'er in next weekend and hope for the best!!!
if you collect metal for scrap u might as well keep them for that. I didnt know much about them other than they were different than each other and i had my fingers crossed that they would work. Im out of town working so if you wanna bring them back you can leave them where i had them for you to pick up. Hope to see you at Draggins I decided to put the 53 in for the 50th anniversary
If your visiting keith ask him if hes got any necker ***** in stock i ripped mine off today pulling into a parking lot, stupid chinese POS
Cheers Chris - will be looking for your ride, as well as Morris'. Looking forward to Draggins. I would have liked to put my Galaxie or Challenger in the show, but I don't know anyone in the club.
Finally - the big weekend!!! After going down to the flu last weekend, this weekend will see the 53 engine go in the 46, the newly chromed bumpers go back on the 67 Galaxie and (if I have time!) I'll get back on the 66 long-box project....
I'd appreciate a shot of the motor mounts you came up with, when you have a chance. They look simple.
From what you see from below, they are just bent at about a 40deg angle and bolted to the original mount plate, with a piece of tire for insulation. I've since been driving it and they work just fine.
To get it running last weekend I had to re-lace the leads due to pulling the disty for paint, then had to pour nearly a gallon of fuel down the carb before she would suck from the tank....it finally fired and ran great, but was pulling water from a leak in the interior of thr rad. No apparent damage, so a can of Bar'sLeak was used. There's NO WAY I was pulling the rad so quick!!! After the BarsLeak it's perfect!! Next weekend - she pulls double duty: a trip to the dump and one to the Coop for some wood!
I guess this (sort of) concludes this thread....the truck runs, under alternate power. Once I get a 46 block that will work, I'll re-open it to show the rebuild.
