Retro-fitting a fuel injection system from a 90's 460 to my '69 429?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if it is possible to retro-fit an electronic fuel injection system from a 1990's F-Series 460cid onto my 1969 429 cid (Mercury Marquis Colony Park station wagon). Right now it is a two barrel carb which I wanted to switch to a 4 barrel; but then I got to thinking that it would be nice to have the reliability of fuel injection. If it is possible, what do I need to do?

Thanks,

Rod <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_12425-->

get yourself an alternator that can produce 1.21 gigawatts and a decent flux capacitor from a junk yard

Hey,

I am asking a couple of questions to try to find out some information that might helpme and these are the answers I get. What are you two, tweedle dee and tweedle dum. If I had known I was going to get such smart assed answers I woundn't have posted on this site. BTW I do have a 1 ton to pull my trailer. I was going to use the Merc to pull the trailer to car shows. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

You are asking to do some pretty off the wall things is what we are trying to get at. Let me get this right, you have a truck that can pull your trailer but you want to make it so your mercury station wagon can pull it? I am confused.

you asked if you could do this and i responded with a no.

Is it possible to FI your Merc? Yes. At what cost? And is it worth it to you? That is totally your call. Keep in mind that the FMC fuel injection from a 90s truck 460 would require the use of an electric fuel pump and the upgraded lines-feed & return-to go with it. A suitable location for the ECM must be found. Significant reworking of the wiring might also be in order. Will you also be using a 460 in your Merc? Bear in mind that an ECM for a 460 would probably need to be modified, or reflashed, to control the smaller displacement of a 429.

Laugh off the would-be Jon Stewarts & Stephen Colberts; but do sit down first and count the costs (financial, intellectual, emotional) of such a project. Should you decide to proceed, there are serious members on this (and other forums) that can-and will-offer help and insight along the way.

In closing, I offer this piece borrowed from an unknown author:

"If there were ever a time to dare,
To make a difference
To embark on something worth doing
It is now.

Not for any grand cause, necessarily –
But for something that tugs at your heart
Something that is worth your aspiration
Something that is your dream.

You owe it to yourself
To make your days count.
Have fun. Dig deep. Stretch.

Dream big.

Know, though,
That things worth doing
Seldom come easy.

There will be times when you want to
Turn around
Pack it up and call it quits.

Those times tell you
That you are pushing yourself
And that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

Persist.

Because with an idea,
Determination and the right tools,
You can do great things.

Let your instincts, your intellect
And let your heart guide you.
Trust.

Believe in the incredible power
Of the human mind
Of doing something that makes a difference.

Of working hard
Of laughing and hoping
Of lasting friends
Of all the things that will cross your path.

Next year
The start of something new
Brings the hope of something great.
Anything is possible.

There is only one you
And you will pass this way but once.

Do it right."

dn.

In order to use the whole 460 EFI setup from one of these trucks, you will have to use the EFI heads, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds. They are all EFI specific and cant be mixed with carb components. The blocks are about the same though. There are headers available for the EFI 460 but I don't think anyone anticipated such a swap. It can be done, but it would take some work. You would also have to worry about chipping or reburning the computer to take advantage of any performance mods. I'm also not sure how the EFI and an old school 429 cam would get along. You might try poking about inthe 460 forum section for more advice.

BTW- I love those old wagons, any kind of station wagon is pretty rare these days. I'd take an old big block boat over a minivan any day.
