remote start on my 06 Navigator
i have an 06 navigator and would like to add a remote start. what is the easiest/most cost effecient way to do this? i dont really want to get into adding a full blown alarm system. i am fine with the keyless entry. someone i know had a show add a remote start to their same year navigator that uses the factory keyless enty transmitter. they just hit the lock buttom 3 times and the truck starts. anyone know anything about this?

Yes, you will need an immobilizer bypass module. Peripheral electronics makes one that I really like and you don't have to lose a key, but I am biased since I use Peripheral and Idatalink products. You only need one key to program it.
I know that Ultrastart and DEI both make add-on remote start units that use your keyless entry remote to activate the remote start sequence.
Are you doing this installation yourself or are you taking it to a professional shop?

If you have a DMM, there's not much to it. The immobilizer bypass module will be hooked up to the add on remote start unit with one wire and the bypass module will also connect to a couple wires that come out of the ignition tumbler on your Navigator.
All you're gunna really need to hook up is 12v constant, ignition, starter, accessory, ground, brake wire, tach, door lock, and maybe a hod pin trigger if the unit comes with one.
The tach is easy to get on cylinder #8, on the coil or on the fuel injector wire.
You don't really have to hook up the accessory, but if you want your heater or A/C to be running when you get inside, you need to hook that wire up.
All you're gunna really need to hook up is 12v constant, ignition, starter, accessory, ground, brake wire, tach, door lock, and maybe a hod pin trigger if the unit comes with one.

use a ford remote start system and there is only about five wires to connect and usually it warrantied by ford

Remember to program the door keypad to arm and disarm if you choose a remote start system with an alarm. Also, you have to have a module for the power running boards to deploy properly with remote start.
I have the six button ford/lincoln remote start system installed by the dealer for my 2005 Navi. It is really made by Audiovox. About $585 total. No extra key needed/used to bypass chip in key(PATS), just a ford bypass module needed. Works flawlessly except for the fact the power running boards and radio have a slight delay to deploy when using remote start function. You also have a quick stop feature to leave the engine on and take the keys. That is real useful if you have young children to take care of. Take key out, leave car and AC/heat on and get children/car seats out/bags and then remotely turn off engine. Power liftgate and hatch release buttons are also programmed to button 1 and button 2 or you can customize to turn on other things.
Or, you can go to KCautosound and the guy is super helpful even if you don't buy from him.
