Excursion Production Numbers By Year?

Hi All,

I hope this isn't considered an uworthy thread, but it occurred to me that it would be interesting to know just how many Excursions have been produced during the model run (2000-2005). I know that as of this spring, several local Ford dealers have expressed to me that they wish that the Excursion were still available, since they have (or should I say, had) a fairly strong buyer interest in the model as opposed to the Expedition EL. I did drive the Expedition EL, and personally, I found it lacking in torque, particularly relative to the Excursion I finally bought (and which they'll have to pry my cold, dead fingers from to make me give it up - I LOVE THIS TRUCK ).

I was fortunate enough to get a very low mileage EX V10 (28K original) and plan to keep it indefinitely. To that end, I'd like to know if anyone made (a) a good quality Die-Cast model of a stock excursion (not the 'Limo' version that I've seen) and (b) to get recommendations on a car cover (high-quality) for outside storage (unfortunately, I don't have enough space in the garage, what with my race car and muscle car).

I realize it's a pretty general thread, but I'd appreciate any inputs the community might have.

Thanks,

Bob

From a various collection of web articles, the best calculations I could come up with are as follows:

2000 - 60,000 +/-
2001 - 50,000
2002 - 40,000
2003 - 35,000
2004 - 30,000
2005 - 20,000

Total - 235,000 units

The first part of the first year was good for initial sales but dropped off during the latter part of the sales year. Ford decreased production for the second year due to almost a three month surplus of excursions on the lots compared to a normal one month surplus. Sales declined and so did production for every year after that. Until the final year, they produced only 20,000 excursions. And of those 20,000 most were pushed down to Mexico and were sold until the end of 2006. So US sales ended in 2005, but there were still enough to market and sale for another year in Mexico. So it is possible to own a 2006 excursion but it would have been a Mexican import version.

One of the mian reasons driving the continued production of the excursion was the high profit margin on them. Ford could pocket around $15,000 per vehicle. Unforunately, the rising gas prices and cost for materials forced them to move on to revamping the Super Duty pick up line and creating the Expedition EL to compete with the surburban.

Again, this information was compiled from an assortment of web articles and most of them agreed on the numbers produced for the years made.

I've always wondered. My 2005 has a manufacture date of 9-05 on the door plate. Someone told me that they continued making the '05 model for a second year.

Atleast I was somewhat close. It seems in the previous posts that 3000 is not correct either. 66,000 equates to 5500 per month for the first year.

If you average all years they averaged 3263/month. So I was kinda correct.

Sorry still learnin' Thanx guys for straightening that out.
