Enough Is Enough

AHHHH.. The so called"child seat" the middle on on the middle row rattles like crazy unless i either put my hand on it and push while driving..(Which is not to safe) or someone sits there.. Moving the seat forward helps sometimes... but not always... Can i get some help on this... I saw where one member had to get the dealer to replace the seat track... Hoping I can just rig it up somehow... It is out of warranty! If not any ideas on what it cost to have the dealer repair?

Thank you in advance for all of ur help!

03 Eddie

Given that I don't have one it's hard to say. But can you try to rattle it back and forth and try to determine whats loose?

I have tried that.. Numerous times and unfortunately cant find anything what so ever.. I have even pulled the velcro on the carpet back.. Still couldnt see or find anything.. Personally it is a nice feature but since i have no kids.. not one i need , especially with the rattles.

Have someone drive it while you sit behind the seat and lay down and put your head there maybe you can pinpoint the noise.

The warranty on Safety issues like yours ends @ 5 YRS or 50,000 miles I believe, check your warranty book in your manual. its eother that or even more on certain states.
Good Luck

Ger.

I had the same thing happen on my 04 and it ended up being a loose bolt. I couldn't tighten it enough so I put a couple of washers between the bolt and the floor and it is gone now. I would definitely check all your mounting bolts.

When I was diagnosing I just got in there and yanked on the seat until I finally located the noise. It took me a couple of hours of laying in the floorboard and twisting my head just right, but I finally found it.

From what I remember I just wedged my hand in there and was patient. I folded both side seats forward to move them out of the way and it allowed me enough room to kind of lay in the floor and contort myself to get to the bolts. I "think" there is also a cover panel that you remove to get to the bolts. I look at it again when I have access to the vehicle tonight and give you a better description.

Awesome! Ed, you are Johnny on the spot.

On mine the "HS3" bolt was the culprit. At least that exploded diagram will give you an idea of possible squeek spots to check.

Thanks for the pic... I looked at it tonight.. It is definitely coming from the right side of the seat (if u are sitting in it) I believe it is the HS3 Screws or somewhere from that area.. If i pull on that piece it makes the noise... Kinda like a poping noise.. I tried to tightened the HS3 bolts but they are very tight... 89LX306... were yours tight as well.. so u just put the washers on??? For now i just keep the seat folded down.. Looks ok.... I guess ne one ever take that seat out and just have the capt. chairs.. maybe put some arm rest on the side???

Man, that's great! Do you have pic of the driver's seat on a 98 showing the lumbar support cable?

I took the middle seat out of my wife's 04 expedition to make more room for a trip in January and kept it that way ever since. It's easier access to the 3rd row rather than having to lift up the seat to get to the back.
