My Dentside Projects
Im thinking about keeping my highboy when I finish it and leaving it in Utah for when I go out there but dont really want to keep insurance on it.
@77&79F250 I know you have some experience with the old Humvee tires do you have a preference between the Goodyear MT & MT/R or the BFG Baja T/A tires?
I found a guy local to me who has a ton of them and kinda want to buy a couple dozen of them but not totally sure which is the best for offroading and that sorta thing.
Ive had a MT/R side wall split on me from dry rot and a MT explode however both were from circa 07/09 so near 20 year old tires.
Ive got a Baja T/A on my other truck and they seem good but figure youve got a bit of experience running them.
Welding pans in for the first welding project ive ever done is interesting especially with everyone telling me that welding with fluxcore and no
gas is about the worst way to weld these in but its what ive got laying around so im using it.
Well at the property where the 85 F250 is there is also a 73 F250 that resides on a 87 F350 chassis. My original plan was to take the 6.9 IDI out of the 85 and put that into my
wrecker as well as taking the needed parts off of the 85 for the 84. The 73 F250 used to have a 460 in it so I was going to take the wreckers 460 put that into the 73 F250 and
sell the truck. Well ive been thinking about how much of a pain it is always having to move tools in and out of my camper when I go camping in my white truck. Well this 73 F250
has a Service Bed on it and was thinking about how convenient that would be to have tools on the exterior of my truck and dont have to mess with them every time I need to go
into my camper or whatever. So my plans changed since then and now I was thinking ill take the 6.9 out of the 85 and put that into the 73 F250 however a truck popped up
yesterday on facebook marketplace which has a 76 F150 body on a 92 F250 chassis with a turbo 7.3 IDI engine in it. Since I plan to tow with this 73 F250 I figure a turbo 7.3 IDI
with 90k miles on it would be a pretty good start for doing such a thing with this truck. So im going to try to work on a deal for that truck but where im making the full circle with this
is that on my 72 F350 I wanted it to have Twin Traction beam front suspension and that 92 F250 has that so i was thinking ill take the 76 F150 body off and put my 72 F350 body
onto it and ill take the 76 F150 body and put that onto my 72 F350 chassis and sell that. Im hoping the bed on the 76 F150 is in good condition as thatll be an awesome donor for
my 74 F100 which popped out of gear awhile back and smashed the bed as seen on my first post of this forum. So with all that being said I think this will be worth my time and ill
still have the 6.9 out of the 85 for the wrecker for when I get to swapping that in ill have it still.
I know I originally mentioned when starting this forum that I would use the white truck to do all of my towing with a 7.3 idi or powerstroke however I am thinking this service truck
setup will be alot lighter and more maneuverable than my original plan of having a 30-35' gooseneck trailer behind my white truck. I am currently thinking ill use the service truck
to tow a 20x8.5' or so flatbed 8 lug trailer with either my 72 F350 or my Wrecker on the trailer depending on where im going.
As for the white truck I will be keeping it and ill probably keep it gas powered since I wont be planning on towing with it as much as I once had planned on. Eventually whenever its
390 kicks the bucket ill tear it down and do a high compression rv cam build on it and call it a day.
However I will be getting rid of one truck to fund these projects which is my 76 Highboy. I have alot left todo on it but with how much I am into it and how much people sell them for I should
be able to make quite a bit on it. As of now I still need to finish floor pans yes I know its taking me awhile im not exactly the most hyper motivated individual. I need to get carpet,
door weatherstripping, manual steering drag link, narrow frame D60 4.10 rear axle, rering/bearing/seal kit for the 360, reseal kit for the NP435, and I need to locate a NP205 as well.
I also need to paint the floor of the truck do the sealant on the body seams finish sandblasting some of the parts for it and start putting it back together. I am hoping to get it back together
before September.
I also plan to get my 84 F250, 65 W200, and my 70 C20 running and sold hopefully around the same time as my Highboy so I can get the service truck running for next years King of the Hammers
which is one of my favorite events for the whole year and hopefully get to go out to Matts Offroad Recovery's Wrecker/Offroad Games next year! I also will be parting out/selling the 85 F250 and the
77 F350 parts trucks hopefully have them also gone around September as well.
Anyways end of my 4 AM rant before I go to bed night yall

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
The 1st gen 36x12.50x16.5 Goodyear Wrangler R/T is a bias ply and have terrible wet road manners and not that good at off roading.
2nd gen 37x12.50x16.5 Goodyear Wrangler M/T is a HEAVY tire, 80 lbs by itself and not all that for any real off roading. Hard sidewall.
3rd gen 37x12.50x16.5 best one yet, newer tire, newer design better for off roading.

Interesting never seen the R/T tire before.
Yeah the M/T tire is whats been on my wrecker since the mid 90s at least obviously they mustve liked it between the 2 tow companies who owned my truck between then and now.
The MT/R Goodyear is definitely the most agressive looking tire ive just been weary of them because I had one that split on the sidewall tread.
It was dry rot issues and it was from 2008 or 9 but still worrys me a little bit.
Ill have to see what he has and how many of each model but I want to get some of the newest tires he has in the E rated catagory.
Need 1 Baja T/A for my white truck
Need 5 for my Wrecker possibly 7 if I go dually still need to decide on that.
Need 5 for my Highboy
Need 6 for my 72 F350
Maybe a tire source for you? https://govtire.com/collections/trucktires
Or https://militarytires.ca/product-category/offroad-4x4/
Got a deal on some 35" boggers and different rims.
35" TSL's on the front for a bit.
38.5 TSL's on all 4 corners.
Lowered the flat bed and put 37" Baja TA's now days. I like my front fenders un bent.

Yeah ive never seen those tires before I wonder when they stopped making them mustve been back in the early 2000s or in the 90s possibly.
The guy local to me is asking 200 a tire im going to offer 125 a tire since I want to buy in bulk essentially.
Thanks for the links though!
I currently have the Baja T/A's on my white truck and I like them but ive never really done anything hard in that truck.
I have big expectations out of my wrecker and my 72 F350 for offroading which is why im curious which are the better tires to get.
Im half between getting more Baja T/A's because thats what I have on my truck already that are somewhat new and trying the more agressive looking MT/R.
I do not even hear the tires because of the fenderwell exit headers to straight pipes. And then it went to fenderwell headers to stacks.
CrAzY loud in the cab.
1 gen 36x12.50x16.5 BIAS ply and IMO NOT the best wet road manners.
2nd gen 37x12.50x16.5. HEAVY TIRE.
3rd gen 37x12.50x16.5
3nd gen info there are 2 different load range versions. Get some load range "E's" for the wrecker.
