Not a whole lot of progress made lately, but I did get the aluminum arm support rough cut and the sheet of aluminum that I’ll cut the speaker grills from arrived in the mail. I hope to work on them some this weekend and upcoming week so be sure to look for som updates if your following along.
I also got the new cnc bit to cut the aluminum so hopefully that goes well.
I was distracted when cutting out the last pieces and I ended up epoxying the outer profile on before drilling and setting the press in clips. Duuh!
I think it’ll work out fine because I was planning on backfilling the holes with epoxy anyways. More on that later.
I did some testing as far as full size and clearance cuts for the heads of the push clips. I’ll get a photo of that soon.
More progress and next steps here.
I profiled the aluminum, brushed all the degrees and sanded the bevels in.
I’ve still got to cut the armrest cushions and skin those in leather but now I know how much leather I have left. There’s no room for error at this point.
I put a 1/8” recess into the backer material to inset the armrests a little to give it some more depth.
I like the way they are coming out and I think the final product is going to look fantastic in the truck.
Next steps:
Cutting the speaker grills and fit them.
Drill and chamfer the holes in the armrests for mounting hardware.
Cut the cushions and skin the with leather and affix them somehow.
the red coating is a water barrier, though I may put some plastic on the door.
Test fitting is done, I ran them un-skinned for a while.
I’m using speaker buckets in the doors, I’ll take a photo of them for you. They work well and really help with the bass. The component speakers sound amazing actually.

Maybe I missed it, have you done any test fittings?
What plan for water proofing the back side, vapor barrier?
You using any weather shields for to protect speakers from outside moisture?

Nice, very nice for sure. DId you get your axle bearings figured out?
I got the bearings off and the axels cleaned up but still no word on getting them pressed on. I may just weld up my own press from some scrap steel and a bottle jack unless I hear back from someone.
More progress, got my cnc bits in to cut the speaker grills.
I got some stainless hardware to mount the door armrest and speaker grills. I’ll be setting a rivnut in the door for the back bolt on the armrest but I need to figure out how I’ll be attaching the speaker grills.
I polished the horseshoe but haven’t figured out how I’ll turn that into the door latch handle quite yet. I know I’ll have to weld a bar on the back to mount it but beyond that it’s going to be a creative process.
