Just thinking ..... likely will use what I have but everytime I hear a gravel fly out of a tire tread, I cringe but I think must be strikes under the cab, not the side that I'm hearing occasionally.
Sorry, tbear, but I don't have other photos of those moldings. I tried to hold one in place and saw how far off it was. Forcing it to conform would have meant sliding that sharp edge along my new paint, and there was no way I was going to do that, with or without that black edge protector. I knew I would have to bend the one I tried to make it fit and even then I couldn't be certain that I could make it fit correctly. And if I bent it there would have been zero refund.

I've started working on prepping the tailgate for paint. I painted the hinges and catch arms with P-15. I love how that paint flows out to a mirror smooth finish, even when applied with a brush.

Oh, that's OK, I found them online and I think was a goofy idea. I came up with another idea to flesh out, seeing as these I have are perfect fits. I'll just apply a thin strip of a rubber type tape to the back side where they rest against the body, maybe PPF just to keep metal rolled trim lip from contact, maybe just a cover of 3M Super 33 electrical tape trimmed.

I do Thank You for the reply.

Thanks, guys. I wonder if you can help with something.
I started prepping the tailgate for paint and found that it is bowed a bit. Right where the bow is I found several dents on the inside of the tg, right at the top. Right away I pulled out my trusty slide hammer and was about to drill holes so I could pull out the dents when I stopped. It occurred to me that drilling holes--to be filled with bondo--might not be the smartest thing to do, especially since I would most likely be standing there at some time down the road. I'm not thinking that I will leave the tg as is since I was planning on installing a strip of metal protection along the top edge of the tg.
What do you guys think?

If it is bowed now and you "straighten" it or repair it, it is going to pop the repair bondo 1st time you have it open and stand in the middle. Just use the edge protection strip and get on the down the road.

I use nails to weld into the dent and use my slide hammer/vice grips to pull the dent out.

I decided to drill and slide hammer out the dents, and then I went back and welded up the holes.
77&79F250. The first time I painted my truck I had an LMC tailgate on it, the one w/o FORD stamped on it. The first time I opened and stood on the tg it tweaked and sheets of paint flaked off. I sold it and found a replacement, oem, at the jy.

I ground down the rust and want to coat with P-15.

Back in the late '70s. my FIL bought a '77 F-250, was used. Fellow at Church also painted, etc at his home. My FIL plated inside of tailgate with a sheet of steel, I'd guess was maybe 3/32" thick (between 1/16 and 1/8) then he added a piece of maybe 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/8" thick angle along the top with lip pointed to rear over top of TG, Sure it added weight, but it also was sturdy. After painting, it looked like it belonged there and it was easy to grip to lift.

I have a polished stainless steel top cover, it was stiff itself, I'm sure it added to the TG, I bought it in the '90s and am glad I did, cannot find one now.

Hey tbear. I finding that to be the case. I don't see them anywhere. I may have to buy one for a later model and try to make it fit. We'll see.

I'm thinking of installing the aluminum Ford emblem on my tg. It would mean having to drill 10 screw holes through the tg, so I'm not real big on the idea, but once the emblem is polished I know it will look good. I will need to transfer the hole location from the emblem to the tg. Is making a template of the hole locations with paper the only way to get it right?
