Jack sparrows resurection...

Well, the time has come to begin on the carribean turquoise 65 f250 project a bit.
We purchased this out of Illinois last year for our daughters first rig. Luckily she is 10 so I have a bit of time still.
I guess first off ill be stripping everything from a 77f250 i bought to get power disk brakes and power steering.
I really want to swap the 3.54 gear d60 from the 77 also. I think I will have to remove perches and reposition them due to frame width differences. I really am wanting also to use the 77 springs and hangars to loose the tall stack on the 65 and get away from the 4.10 ratio.
I

f anyone has done these swaps im all ears for advice..
Thanks

Disk brakes, ps box, 3.54 gear d60 rear from frame brackets in all harvested from the 77 parts rig.

The big question is do I sell the 2 16" oe wheels and bottle cap centers...I just don't see finding 2 more and I'd rather put more modern width steelie on. What is a pair with decent caps worth?

They’re worth what someone wants to pay, but I saw a guy with an eBay ad asking about 1100.00 plus 200.00 to ship for a set of four. Minus the bottle-caps..I passed them by.

i just put together another set, I paid aprox 175 - 225 per wheel, and it took me about 6 months of turning over every stone I could to locate them piecemeal. I also had them blasted and powder coated for another couple hundred bucks.

They are pretty hard to find.

If the '77 rear axle is at all wider than the '65, wider tires may rub. I have 245/85/R16 tires on my '64. One tire is difficult to R/R because of the clearance between the drum and fender.

I've gone where you are going with my F250 and love the results.
Rear
I used a rear diff from an '81 but they are essentially the same as your '77. Spring perches and shock mounts will have to move. Be mindful of the pinion angle when moving perches, do one at a time with a level on the other. Running 8 x 16 wheels with 0 offset and 275/65 16 tires (I think, they're factory size for an excursion), no rubbing but close. You'll need to get the correct rear u-joint to match both the Dana and your old driveshaft; it's a common size "adaptor" joint. Replace brake hose with new.
Front
Hopefully you have the dual piston calipers, all this front end stuff is bolt on. You might have to play with a few springs to get the right ride height. I used the originals and made some 11/2 thick-ish spacers to get the front up where it looks good. Get new brake hoses. You have booster and m/c, but I chose to replace with a replacement combo unit from Oreilly; you'll need to modify the brake rod and do something with brake switch. The '77 switch can be cleverly made to work. You'll need a proportioning valve, use the '77. They are hard to find. I don't have one and am looking, it's needed.
This setup will throw you through windshield, it's that good.
Power steering
There is a difference between a v8 gear and a 6cyl gear and all the parts houses only have the 6 cyl gear despite what they say. If you need a new gear, I suggest Redhead and hang on to your original until you know for fact whatever you get will fit. I exchanged mine only to find NAPA, Advance, Oreilly, etc couldn't deliver a v8 gear and you could be screwed it you exchange when you pick up new before install. Fortunately I had another for exchange.
PS pump brackets/pully for an FE are getting scarce.
You'll need to shorten the steering column...MAYBE. I think the '77 will bolt in without mods though I have not done so myself.
The gear bolts up. PS was the most involved upgrade as far as getting everything you need, it's all out there, but requires some effort to find.

The above upgrade transformed my truck and I love the way it drives; easy, relaxed and more than capable.

I measured center of tire to center of tire and it was maybe 1.5" wider iirc. It will have not oversize tires also. Even if tight itll be ok. Nbd ill get around it.

I saved the steering box and hoped to use it after cleaning and adjusting the sector( i have done many). Yes dual pistons luckily. I will go completely thru all of the systems with new lines,, hosses ,calipers etc. I honestly thought these updates will make the old guy drive decent.. im hoping in January to start swapping parts on.. The holidays are not helping truck budgets lol.
Thank you for your response ! I kept everything I could off the parts truck, it was bare when it went away.

I still need pump and fe bracket. My buddy has one of mine if he can ever find it...

Out with the old. The new is ready to go!!

I found ps bracket, pullies etc for this project. I'm trying to just get the beams in for now tho. We will see. I would love to concentrate on this for a bit but I have a lot of other things to do.
