Holy cow...86,000 miles?! What are you doing, driving it R/T from WV across the US?
10/15/2012: I bought a 2013 Escape, so far, I've put 2,455 miles on it.
btw: V6 no longer available, only 4 bangers: 2.5L and two Eco-Boosts: 1.6L & 2.0L
There's a HUGE MARKUP on Extended Warranty's. Take the MSRP, multiply it by 5, then negotiate from there.
And be aware that no 2001/12 Escape (basically a rebadged Mazda Tribute) came with a telescoping steering wheel.
My wifes commute is 80 miles each way. We do an easy 1000 miles a week on our vehicles.

That's what it was, contaminated the entire system. Wife comes to me and says A/c wasnt working good and it was making a funny noise.
High side pressure was so high I could not get my gauges on unless I let it stabilize for 2 days. The funny noise was the belt slipping on the compressor, mixed with the fans on full blast as the high side pressure was well over 250, system was trying to salvage the compressor.

The trouble started in 2009?? What's the message say?
Someone backed into my front end, I think with a trailer hitch. The evaporator was just kissed but no leak but they replaced it anyway. No plan to replace the accumulator even since the system was opened. If I would have remembered about this, I could have paid the extra to have it replaced.
The core in front of radiator is the Condensor not the evap just an fyi. Here is the internal message from Ford.
SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGES 22492 2009- 2011 MARINER / 2009-20012 ESCAPE - A/C LACK OF COOLING DUE TO DESICCANT MATERIAL
SOME 2009-2012 ESCAPE/MARINER VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT AN A/C LACK OF COOLING. THIS MAY BE DUE TO DESICCANT CUP MOLDING RELEASING FINE PARTICLES/DEBRIS INTO A/C SYSTEM; WHICH EVENTUALLY CONTRIBUTES TO A RESTRICTION IN THE SYSTEM. SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE EXCESSIVE HIGH SIDE PRESSURES; LOW SIDE PRESSURE CAN BE EXTREMELY HIGH OR LOW; A/C COMPRESSOR MAY NOT ENGAGE OR ENGAGES FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME; PRESSURES SLOW TO EQUALIZE AFTER COMPRESSOR SHUTS OFF. IF ROTUNDA FLUSHINGMACHINE IS NOT AVAILABLE REPLACE ALL COMPONENTS OF A/C, INCLUDING LINES. VERIFY ACCUMULATOR/RECEIVER DRIER IS PN BL8Z-19C836-B (ENGINEERING PN BL84-19E961-AB); REFER TO WSM, 412-03. IF ROTUNDA FLUSHING MACHINE IS AVAILABLE, FLUSH CONDENSER AND EVAPORATOR CORE; REFER TO WSM, 412-00. RECHARGE SYSTEM REFER TO WSM, 413-01 AND USE AVAILABLE SERVICE LABOR TIMES. EFFECTIVE DATE: 26-AUGUST-2012

Ah! Yes, I had my home dehumidifier on my mind which I'm working on which has a tiny evaporator leak.
What's with the two different PN's for the condenser? Could be either or one a improved part or what??
Just checked and mine has the BL84-19E961-AB in it.
I love how they want to try and flush a non-flushable, parallel flow style condenser. There is not two part numbers in the above message. One is the part# that Ford sells it under and the second is the engineering # which is what is actually stamped on the part. Ford has not stamped the actual part #s on parts in decades. And the numbers above refer to the drier, not the condenser. Going by the wording of the message, if you have that one, it is suspect and there is an improved unit. But, there are three condensers depending on application, one for Hybrid models, and two for non-hybrid models depending on whether it is A/T or M/T as the trans cooler is built into the condenser.

This thread has went OT but who's asking about the PN for a condenser? It went to the point that one class of ESP included the accumulator/drier but the other doesn't. Now to the point of a possible issue with them.
I think that you might still see the actual part number on parts that are big enough, meaning castings, etc. They rolled PNs on ring/pinions through a simple stamper when I worked in the green end at Ford's Sterling Gear& Axle.
I go by the PNs in the Ford Workshop Manual. I have the PN for mine anyway as it's on the list from my recent Ford body shop repair.

I know we're o/t. This is where I was referring too about two condensers.
I am new to the site and I am hoping that you can help me out. I own a 2010 Ford Escape and the A/C on it just stopped working. The car is now out of warranty and I'm looking a few dollars to get it fixed. I car is going into the Ford dealer this coming Monday for a quote to fix the A/C. I see you have posted a copy of the Special Service Message 22492 about the desiccant liquid line filter drier. Do you have a copy of that letter from Ford on their letter head and if so would you be willing to share it with me? I have tried to find it on the internet but no luck.
I think I send my original question below to the wrong person. My question is below and great u tube page.
Thanks
Joe
