I am in the market for a new pickup and I love just about everything about the new F-150, except for the lack of acceleration power. I know its a truck and its for utility use, but get real Ford, it feels really underpowered. I drove the F-150 scab FX4 with the 5.4 and I was totaly impressed with the exterior style. interior fit and finish, ride quality, and general feeling of good quality. However, I have a very hard time bringing myself to purchace a truck that is lacking in power.
Anyway, my concern is with Fords plans for the 05 F-150. If I buy the 04 and then next model year they come out with 50 more ponies and/or a 5spd auto tranny, I will be pretty unhappy.
I want to know if anyone has some real solid info on ford's plans for the 05?
Also, if I do buy the 04 (which is quite likely) and the 5spd auto comes out for the 05, how realistic is it to have it put in my 04?
Any thoughts/info is greatly appreciated!
Or you could wait until 2010 and all of the problems of the 04 F150 will be solved. But could be you will not like something about
the 2010 also.Anyway the 04 is not underpowered. All you have to do is push the pedal to the metal and watch the spedo. Next ,5spd auto. In most cases 5spd is always shifting. They can't seem to find the gear they are looking for.
Buy the truck of your choice now and enjoy it in 2004.
I've noticed once the ecu "learned" my driving style its seems to have a lot more power than when I first got it. It doesn't have the loud raw feeling that the GM's give but its there.
First, try to find a demo with at least 3-4,000 miles on it- this engine really comes into its own once it's been broken in. Our problem is that they're selling at a rate that we can't keep one long enough to get that many miles on it! Secondly, Ford's not going to tell you about big improvements for '05 because- you guessed it!- everyone will wait for the '05. I can tell you this: the 3-valve technology will be applied to the 4.6 for 2005, producing 300hp in the Mustang GT. Will that mean the 5.4 will get more ponies for '05? Only Bill Ford Jr. knows for sure, and we aren't on speaking terms anymore...........
