How can i get more oil pressure out of a 1991 7.3 IDI...I'm runnin about 10-20 pds @600-700 rpm and about 40-45 pds @2100 @ normal operating temp...I don't like the low at the idel though I'd like to see both ends up about 10-15 pds...Is there a better oil pump for my truck out there???
10 lbs per 1000 rpm. Your doing fine. Volume is more critical than pressure, 70 pounds of oil pressure is near worthless if the clearances are too small.
Oil flow is more important than oil pressure. Low pressure means more flow with a positive displacement pump. The film strength of the oil and its additives are what is preventing wear. The system pressure just makes sure that the heat generated is carried away and a fresh supply of oil is there to replace what has been heated up & squished away.
Relieving oil pressure will release some horsepower and torque. To improve any oil flow, you must remove all casting flash and radius each edge within the system. Drain back is just as important as exiting the pump.

Horsepower = Pressure (PSIG) × Flow (GPM)/ 1714
Assume approx 1 GPM per 1000 RPM
HP=55 PSI X 2 GPM / 1714 = .064 HP = not worth the effort for HP gain
My husband has a 94 7.3 IDI Turbo Diesel and the fuel gage is not working. It's showing past full when the pickup is both running and off. He's lead to believe it's the sending unit but can't seem to find a definite part number for it. He thinks he might have found the one he needs but it is out of stock. He's not super mechanically inclined and just needs some reassurance on exactly what he's looking for. The manual reads that it's a 19 gallon tank. Any suggestions? (I know this doesn't have to with this exact thread but it's the only thread I found with the exact model of our truck.)
Make a new thread. That's what they are there for.
Does it show the fuel gauge as over full on both tanks, or only one? Does it ever go down?
Generally speaking, it is the sender yes.

This should be the sending unit needed.
Part #692-112
If you're not very mechanically inclined I would recommend having it done by a professional just because you are dealing with your fuel system and being the truck is 24 years old it May be somewhat difficult to access, not impossible but maybe worth paying to have done if that's an option. Again that Part number is as follows for advanced auto parts
Part #692-112
Have a blessed day, hope this helps
