IP and Injectors

K, So Ive been looking at doing some much needed maintenance on the truck, and in the process, i have been struggling on what to do for injectors. I could wait till April for new stanadyne injectors I think thats the name, not 100%. Or i could buy the much cheaper reman injectors for like 108 for the whole set and have them alot sooner than april. My basic question is what the hell is the difference between these 2 sets of injectors? Why is the one set so much more expensive and is it worth holding out?

Another Question, after reading all these threads about IP and timing and making sure everything is in time before turning up the IP im really beginning to lose peace of mind about my current IP it was a rebuild the PO had put in, im wondering during the process of the rebuild of the IP if the gears and things internally in the IP could be off and the timing never be right? Is this possible? I plan on doing some serious work and making sure everything is appropriately in time this weekend, and i feel relatively prepared for it all but this issue is something that is beginning to bother me and im wondering if i should go ahead and get a new pump for it too.

Edit: One more thing i wanted to add to this thread was Pyrometers, how do they work, how are they installed? I have searched the forums for more information but have found little. Pyrometers seem to be a necessity before turning up the IP. If anyone knows a good place to buy them from that would be great and if anyone has a "How to" on installing that would be even better.

Edit: Last Edit I promise: The terminal wires running off the both batteries are eeexxxtreemely ****ty. I mean i dont even know how it still starts and i just found this out like yesterday - didnt notice cause the PO had so much Electrical Tape wrapped around it you could wrap it around the truck twice smh...I have never replaced these before and i know there are different gauges to worry about so how should i go about replacing these?

Anyways all that said, any tips or advice will be appreciated, and you guys should know that im hardly a mechanic, im 19years old and my profession is Network Operation Center Technician - I dont get to break out the tools very often at the job. But for some reason I love tooling around on this old truck.

Thanks,

dont be too scared about running remans.they're sold everyday for a many engine and serve most just fine.if they didn't,they wouldn't bother rebuilding 'em.
im running a set of remans issue free.
it's not like these engines are modern engines where most of the work is stripping the engine down so you can replace a bad one or two.they're right there in plain view easy as pie to replace.so its not like the end of the world if you need to swap one or two out.

never assume a previous owner knew what he was doing.make sure of it instead.
keep searching.all your questions and more are all covered.your on the right track.

at least he cut the cables open to clean them by the sounds of it and tapped 'em back up good after.that sure beats letting the starter drag.for replacements just search.we covered those real good in many threads.

On another side note anyone know if you swap the locks from the passenger side to the driver side? My driver side lock is ****ed and wont unlock from outside so i have to go through the passenger side unlock the driver side get out walk around to the driver side and then get in the truck. So yeah wondering if anyone knows if i can just swap them. Lol, i could give a damn if the passenger side doesnt open.

By the way i went ahead and ordered the remans injectors for like 119 total after the shipping. 1-5days till they are here, so ill take this weekend to do a few other things that should be done and next weekend, replace the the injectors glow plugs and return lines.

Thanks,
New Injectors have New Tips, Rebuilt Injector have old tips ...

A Pyrometer measures the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), they are installed in the Exhaust stream as close to the pistons as possible. The Exhaust manifold is the best place.
Like:
See the line bent 90 degrees ... That is my pyro probe installed into the left exhaust manifold collector.

As for Battery Cables, best thing to do is take it to a shop that can build custom cables and have them fab it up.
I did recently find a source of pre-fabbed cables for a good price ... I have to go looking again, I lost it.

-Enjoy
