I have a 76 f250 4x4 that i am rebuilding, i have to tore down to the frame and have it painted, installed a new 390 in it and in the process of finding a new cab for it, I want to start the motor while everything is off of it for ease of working on it and just to make sure it will run, i know i can only run if for a few seconds without water but how can o go about hooking up the electronis brain box to the distribitor without to much hassle? I really dont want to strip out the wiring harness just to do this for a few seconds of pleasure and wrenching any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Thats a first for me, Never heard of any type of Electronic Brain Box/Computer for these year trucks. Maybe Im misunderstanding the question.

Get your battery, and run the ground to the block. You'll need to wire the distributor to the coil (negative side) and the positive side to the battery. Hook up your starter, and you'll need to hook up your fuel line from a gas can, to the fuel pump on the engine, and from the fuel pump to the carb.
That should be all you need.

It will be a Duraspark. Here is a diagram for wiring it, you can rig something together. I'm getting ready to build a test stand from an old engine stand I have. Got a 250ci I want to check out.
