??? about my rig?

I just got into a 05 Excursion with the 6.0. She has 108k on and i am wanting just a little more mpg!!! To start out what are EGT's and what kind of guages do i need to get? Would getn rid of the cat and muffler with the stock pipe size help? I dont want to lose any of my lowend torque. I do know that oversizen exhaust will hurt a gasser on lowend if ya dont have the compression to handle the size of pipe, is it the same with a diesel? I'm just gettn into this world, been a gasser for way to long!! Just need some help getn started! Thanks!!

EGTs = Exhaust Gas Temps.

Gauges? We don't need no stinking gauges!

What are you planning on using the the truck for? If you are just going to drive the kids to soccer games or Boy Scouts on camping trips then you probably don't need any.

If you are towing a house then a tranny temp gauge is probably a good idea. EGT gauge, too. Of course that would require the installtion of a pyrometer. I put one in my 04 6.0 F350. Not a big deal. Some guys are concerned about doing so but I drilled and taped mine. Not too tough.

Other gauges are similar to a gasser. Oil pressure and the like. Turbo boost is a popular one.

There are a lot of gauges available. Fuel pressure for one. But the big three would be turbo boost, tranny temp, & egt.

MBRP is a popular exhaust system. If you are maintaining a stock engine, that is below 450 or 500 HP MBRP suggests the 4" pipe. That's what I put on. Some people like the 5" but I have to believe that you will feel the drop in torque.

Whatever you do, if you go w/ a turbo back system don't let the cat get away. Some people just trash it. Hang onto it in case your state decides to run smog tests at some point in the future.

A tuner will help with one more or so with your mpg and a 4in exhaust system. Remember...more air for a diesel is a happy diesel.

Thanks!! I will mostly be using it for going to point A to B and occasionally be pulling the drag car to the track.. using the stock pipe size keep my torque up if i just get rid of the muffler and cat?
