Snowmobile blowin brown smoke...

Its a 02 ZR 500, when I let er eat it blows brown smoke, enough to cover the snow. Why could this be happening? Any input is appreciated.

Was that one a four stroke? Did someone mix in oil with the gas?

WAG alert.

This is a two-stroke, correct?

You may have rust in the exhaust. Perhaps moisture and/or unburned oil collected in the pipe, and when you run it hard, some of that goo along with the rust blow out in a brown cloud.

I'd check the pipe, make sure it's solid, and check the coolant, make sure no leaks, check the plugs, make sure no coolant where it shouldn't be.

Does this happen during initial start up, or after its been brough up to opperating temperature?

Sounds to me like the oil injection is set too rich. You should use roughly 1 quart of oil per tank of gas.

Plugs are a nice light brown. Ya its a two stroke. When I start it for the first time of the day it clouds up pretty good until it moves and everything gets freed up. I just had the engine out for a rebuild.
