Put my truck in the ditch, looking for replacement parts suppliers
I had a bit of an accident with my truck a couple weeks back. Long story short, I ended up in the ditch pretty well screwed up the passenger side and pushed the grill and front fenders back a bit. Needless to say, I've got some body work to do, so I'm looking for some good body panels.
A friend of mine works professionally at a body shop doing this type of stuff all the time. We'll be doing the job on weekends instead of at his employers shop to save some money, so I need to order the panels myself. He told me to look for CAPA certified panels. I've found some random sites online that have some of the panels I need, but nobody that has a good really good selection. I've looked into LMC, but they seem to be quite high on prices and I've read that they aren't the highest quality parts available.
Does anybody know of any good suppliers where I can get a very large selection of parts that are going to be high quality parts. I don't want to be paying high prices for original OEM parts like at broncograveyard, but at the same time, I don't want the cheapest chinese parts either. I want good quality reproduction parts.
Also, I took out the side mirror, and since I'm going to be replacing it anyway, I figured I'd upgrade to power mirrors. I've found plenty of sites that offer the power mirrors, but I'm wondering if there is a different style of driver's door panel that will accommodate the mirror switch.
I guess I'm looking for some advice for this whole process and I'll be updating as I go...
Junk yard - pick-a-part is the best place for you to find Parts for exterior, I live out here in cali so pick-a-parts are EVERYwhere!! and FORDS ONLY junkyard is a 20 min drive..
thats what i do when i need something.. just sand primer and pant ...
The boneyard would be great if I could find anything that was rust free. I live in north central Iowa: prime rust-belt territory. I'm hoping I can find some interior bits at the junkyard that I can use. I figure if I'm going to spend the money to fix it, she's getting rebuilt with the things I envision; hence the power mirrors and a 40/20/40 benchseat if a truck with one ever comes into the junkyard.
looking through LMC, is see that the 95 and 96 trucks have a different door? What is so different about the doors from the 92-94? instead of a $250 door it's a $1400 door shell. I'm a bit worried about all of the other online retailers that have the door shells available. Does anybody have any good pictures of what the differences are? I'm trying to look at 92 vs 96 trucks on google, but I don't see anything.
Mill supply is a pretty good place to go I think. I have not picked up body parts from them however this time of the year I am there about 2 times a month for plow parts. They sell the replacement parts for plow pumps to the local auto parts stores. I can walk in and get the same part for about half the price the store wants. Granted there about a hour drive from home but there 15 min from work. I would be willing to give them a try. I have had no complaints on there plow parts. Discount snow plow parts, cutting edges, lift pump, hydraulic hoses, fittings, pins, controls.
