Helping to prevent hydraulic clutch wear/failure.
I'm talking about these years system with the plastic master cylinder and the piston with throwout bearing built in.
This is the only other part that I did change on my truck that I forgot to mention. I have never had to change the slave but I did change the master once due to internal leakage.
I think it's a pretty slick setup actually, I may even use it for some hotrod projects or to use with my 351W swap on my 67 convertible mustang. Pretty compact and will fit in tight areas and pretty easy to service too (except for the slave of course).
Since the master change I added some lucas power steering treatment (about 4 tablespoons) to the Dot 3 in the reservoir. Been working slick as can be since. Any of you tried anything better or know of something more compatible with brake fluid. I'm fixing to purge the clutch system and brake system tomorrow and was thinking of adding something more soluble.
I wouldn't add anything to hydraulic fluid without testing it, meaning OUTSIDE the target system. Mixing petrolem with brake fluid can't end well, and will probably result in goo. That you are worried about the DESIGN defects of the clutch system proves the design stinks, especially the slave cylinder that requires a trans pull to replace.
