Who's had problems with electric mirrors? controls acting wierd
Hey everyone! I've got an 02 F250 with electric side view mirrors. Traditional mirrors, not towing mirrors.
My controller on the driver side door started acting weird recently. The up button won't move the mirror at all, down move the mirror left and down, right works half the time.... Crazy huh?
What is most likely my issue? Just the control switch? Or is there a busted relay somewhere maybe?
Most likely a switch, Mine did the exact same thing..........I took the switch out, Took it apart using a small screwdriver to pry the clips off, Once you have it apart there is a flat square piece of metal with little "ears" that stick up. I Very slightly bent the metal ears up to ensure good contact then put the switch back together. This solved my problem.........I guess over time those little ears loose their spring to them and stay down where they wont get good contact with the switch points........Try it and see if it will work for you, be careful taking it off because there are little plastic push rods that push the metal piece down that will fall out if you arent careful!
I am having a similar problem, but when my mirror moves to the right when I push the switch up. The switch is obviously working, but the mirror just wont go up. Any ideas?

The switch controls direction by reversing connections. If one tab is bent, the mirror won't work properly in whatever direction(s) that tab is involved in completing the circuit for.
Try repairing or replacing the switch first. If the mirror moves down, it is unlikely that there is anything wrong with the motors in the mirror.
I can bare witness that the motors in the mirrors are stout. I had one ripped off by a nozzle hose while driving out of a car wash bay. Was so worried checking my clearances that I missed checking the hose in relation to the passenger side mirror and ripped it clean off the telescoping arms, and dangling by the wires it slammed the side of my truck. Talk about stupid! Still kicking myself for that brainfart! It was a chore getting it back on but works fine.
Does anyone have the part number for the Mirror Control Switch?
I am having a problem finding it on the discount Ford parts sites. I found it on one site but they want $12 shipping...there not going to get that from me!

So, you want someone to look up the number for you, you want them to give you a discount price, AND you want them to send it to you at a loss?
I just think you are unreasonable to complain about a few bucks for shipping. But hey, if running around town looking for what you want is worth $12, then good luck with it.
I think it is a bit unreasonable to charge $12 shipping on an $18 mirror control switch when the part weighs about an ounce.
I found the same part for the same price for about half the shipping price of the first place and it is already ordered. Much more reasonable in my opinion.
What the first company probably does not know...and I have used them several times before...is that they have probably lost me as a customer because of that high shipping cost on this small item.
By the way BPounds... Thanks for your help, you have been just great.
