Back during the winter, I made the mistake of moving my driver’s side mirror when it was froze. After that the mirror will adjust only right and left, not up and down. I hear the motor working in all positions with the mirror adjust switch. Obviously, I did something to the gear box or something inside the mirror internals. I have to ajust it manually and when i do there is no resistance or clicking that held the mirror in place and must ajust frequently. What do the internals consist of and how do they work? Is this something that perhaps can be repaired? A new replacement power mirror is $300. Thank you for your help and input.

It sounds like two of the cables are broke.
The mirrors use 4 small cables, one to pull in each direction.
My truck came with the paddle mirrors and i changed them to after market telescoping mirrors. I could not see **** out of the stock mirrors. Got tired of cutting people off i could not see next to me.
The after market mirrors i installed cost me $180 for the set.
They are exactly like the stock telescoping mirrors on the ford trucks.
Well after three years, both mirrors have one broken cable. they will go up and down. one will go out and the other will go in.
I never adjust them unless im towing. Even in the condition they are in, they are Way better than the stock paddle mirrors.
I don't know if you can buy a cable kit or not. I may be looking also..
