Adding a dual tank?

Hello-

I have searched the old posts and did not get a clear answer on what I need.

I want to add a dual tank to my '78 F350 crew cab. I have a bed from another truck with the dual doors and the stock switch for the dash next to the heater-a/c controls.

1. Is the wiring already existent behind the heater control? All I have to do is plug my switch in?

2. If I obtain a factory Ford solenoid that mounts on the frame is all of the wiring there to both switch the tank and read the gauge? I understand i will have to run some new gas lines to it.

Thanks for the help!

1. There isn't any plug in for the switch. You would have to find a truck that had duals and get the wiring from it.
2. Yes, the switch wire is there & the sender wire in the rear harness but you will need the short adapter wires to plug in from the harness to the sender & the one for the switching valve.
The fuel lines are pretty simple to hook up. Front tank is main, rear is auxillary. The switching valves only come in 5/16" now I was told at the dealer, last one I bought 4 years ago but it did clamp down and has never leaked.

I may be remembering incorrectly but isn't the front tank the aux and the rear the main? At least normally isn't it set up that way?

No, thats the way it comes from the factory. That has been hashed and rehashed many times here.
