I have a 1979 F-250 with dual tanks, and needing to replace the heater switch panel. Does anyone know if the control panel with out A/C will work on mine and my has the A/C switch but I'm not worried about the A/C, Just want the heater. Mine also has the fuel tank switch front/rear in the same panel. Thanks for any help
An a/c control panel is vacuum controlled, and heater only is cable controlled. It would take quite a few modifacations to make it work. Why do you need to switch the whole panel out? What part is bad?
The blower switch and fuel tank selector switch both can be removed separately once you unscrew the heater control and pull it out a couple inches. You might try taking the blower switch out and taking it apart and cleaning it first.
I changed out my blower switch several years back from Ford, they might be available in aftermarket by now, but I've heard that Ford no longer has the part available, I've been told that they have the switch still, but you must order it for a hevier truck application say a 80s-90s F600 or L9000, I'd take your old one in with you to be sure and get the right one.
Both switches are still available from Ford, and the price isn't too bad. When I bought my truck last spring, I replaced all the switches just as preventive maintenence. For the 1979 application, the tank selector switch is D5TZ-9A050-A, and the fan speed switch is D5AZ-19986-A.
ive done this on my truck when my blower motor switch fried due to my relay going out. its easy to replace seprately and is really cheap. u might also wanna check your relay cause i didnt know it was fried till i replaced the switch and everything and went to turn the heater on and it still didnt work.
there are two fan switches.the one on the left of the panel is for the fan speed, low-med-high, the other is on the "vacuum port switch". that switch turns the fan "ON" when you move the control to a/c or heat. if that switch goes out you have no fan. this happened to me last month. when i went to get a new one i found out it is a "DEALER ONLY" item. and it's NOT CHEAP. $135 i wasn't going to pay that much so i took mine apart and fixed it myself. it's easy.
Where is the relay for the heater? something went POP then everything went dead on the truck. everything such as the fan and heater. i have a 1979 f250 3/4 ton with a 400 motor and a auto transmission. camper special. please help the snow is coming. and i also need info on how to replace the fan for the heater. thanks in advance.

Holy necropost Batman!
It would be better to start a new thread than resurrecting a ten year old one.
First question, when you say everything went dead, do you mean the entire electrical system as in no lights , starter doesn't turn, etc. or is it limited to the heater?
Next, do you have just heat or factory A/C?
Trucks with just a heater don't have a blower relay but trucks with A/C do.
As for the blower motor, if its just heat not too bad, factory A/C pretty much a pain to replace.
Let us know which you have and we can be a lot more specific.
BTW welcome to FTE.

It has a heater and factory A/C. And when i heard the loud pop the heater and the a/c controls went dead as in if you try and turn on the heater, variable speed fan switch, a/c, or fan their all out? checked the fuse under the dash and it is good. It has dual tanks so im sure you know that it has a front and rear tank switch on the right hand side of the controls. that is the only thing that still works it switches from tank to tank perfectly. Everything else on the truck that is electrical works awesome. lights, tail lights, alternator, stereo, cab lights ,ext. Sorry about the Resurrection on the post im still trying to learn. came here because i have nobody. But my beautiful wife 29 and 7 year old daughter, 5 year old boy. and this is our only source of transportation. I live in Idaho and it already snowed once. please help!! Thanks everyone.
The blower relay (Ford calls it a safety relay) is up, under the dash behind the glove box.
A bad relay is a common problem but here are a couple of other things to check if the relay doesn't solve your problem.
The blower resistor, this is located in the plenum under the dash. Although usually when this goes bad you'll still have high speed you lose the lower speeds.
Another thing to check is the blower switch itself and the wiring that goes to it. I've found the wiring from the factory marginal and have seen several that I've taken apart have melted wiring going to the switch.
I suspect this is caused by a blower motor that while its still working, is on its way out and drawing higher amperage, causing the wires to overheat.
But first try the blower relay, thats probably the most common problem.
