I am trying to get the column out of my '38 for cab removal and can't figure out how to get the steering wheel off. It has a center that surrounds the horn button that seems to rotate into two positions. I don't know what that's for, but don't want to damage it while taking it apart.

Anybody got a bright idea???
the 2 position light switch is held on by a clip at the bottom of the steering box under the hood.
Unclip the wire bail, remove the light switch, --aw heck get an exploded view and look at how its all put together
Hey Sixoh, I also have a 38' Ford pickup and cant figure out how to get the steering wheel off either. Theres a spring under the horn button, but I have no idea how to get the button off. If you figure it out could you email me at: jwstand01@yahoo.com . I'll let ya know if I figure it out too. Thanks, Jared.
after you take the wire bail off and the light swtch falls off in your hand, (ok twist a little) look inside at the slots.
look back at the bottom of the steering box at the two pronged part.
It is spring loaded
push up on the two pronged part
and remove the small C clip
haha
doesnt that sound easy?
in real life its probably dirty and greasy and you cant even see it but its what holds the two prong on
now the horn rod will slide up inside the cab until it hits the back of the cab.
unbolt the steering box and wiggle it so the light rod comes all the way out
maybe take the back window out
NOW you can take the nut off the steering shaft and post "How can I get the Steering Wheel Off???"
LOL! That's awesome! I'm good on the wheel....just knew there was some wacky ritual to the horn/headlight switch and didn't want to screw it up. Someone was on the ball when they designed a horn shaft that requires rear-window-removal to get the horn apart!
