Does anyone have the Ford installed remote start on their Expy? I received it as a Christmas gift, and I'm getting ready to install it. Was wondering how others like it.
We have had one on own 2001 Expy for about 5 years now and love it. Has pretty good range it will usually start from most resturants and places we are in I would say the range is about 500 feet. We are in Buffalo NY so its mainly used in winter My only regret is I did not hookup the heated seats to turn on but other than that no problems.
Awesome. I don't have heated seats, but I will be hooking up the mirror/rear defrost to it. Later on, I may install aftermarket heated seats. Those will be hooked up also.
It shouldn't be to hard to have those hooked into it.
Do you know where your antenna is located? Trying to find out where is the best place to put it to get the best range.
Last night my Dad and I spent 3.5 hours working on getting the remote start installed.
I'm to the part where I have to check to see if the truck came with a factory alarm. Well, from my testing, I don't think it did. When I lock the truck with the remote, it locks the doors. When I lock it again, it honks the horn. I thought this was setting the alarm. When I test it by having the driver's window down, setting the alarm, waiting 5 minutes (ford book says wait 2), then opening the door, the alarm should sound.......but nothing happens.
The remote even has the panic button, so all along I was thinking I had an alarm.
Does anyone know how I can check to see if the factory installed alarm has been disconnected or disabled or something. I need to hook the remote start to the factory alarm disarm wire.
Mines a 2001 EB and I belive it has the alarm the install was many moons ago but I have the info somewhere. I put my antenna on the windshield kind of behind the rear view mirror. So if I am in the drivers seat I cannot see it its hidden by the mirror , so it behind it and slightly off to the passenger side. For the Driver or passenger you really never notice it.
From the research I did before installing my remote start your truck does not have am alarm. So no need to hook up the disarm wire.
Pushing the lock button on the fob twice is only an audible confirmation that the doors have locked. And the panic is just a horn honking button.
Fun isn't it
ARE YOU SERIOUS????? That's cheap!
This brings up another question. The new Ford Remote start has a "locate your truck" feature. It doesn't say anything about hooking it up to the horn, so I guess it just flashes the lights?
Looks like I need to find a siren to install and a motion activation sensor.
There should be a horn wire from the remote start unit that hooks up to the horn in the truck. The "locate your truck" will honk the horn if the wire is hooked up.

Thanks. Good to know.
Do I really have to have two keys to get this to work? If so, I've got to fork out $75 to get another key. I called the family that traded it in to see if they had any other keys. They guy said he gave the dealership both sets. Stupid dealership I purchased it from lost the second set of keys to it, now I have to fork out the money.
I'll try to dig up my info, I believe my was the motocraft silver remote start. I think it had a loop of wire that went around the ignition key cylinder. You had to remover the plastic shroud. The main box learned the key code and would pulse that wire pretending a key was in the ignition, so no need for an extra key.

Yeah, I have the PATS ring around the key cylinder already. That was the second thing in the instruction booklet.
My Dad and I will finish installing it tonight, so we will see. If not, I guess I'll be finding another key. I'll read more into it tonight just to be sure. I left the instruction booklet in my Dad's shop.

Well, you can call the dealership "stupid", but thats how they get extra money out of the customer. When you bring the vehicle in to have another key made and programmed, they probably pull out the extra key and say, "this ones all fixed".
Any time you buy a vehicle with a chipped key, make it part of the deal that you get TWO keys that WORK or, "No Deal"!
