hi, i have a 1955 f100 all stock 223 6 cyl that is tired , ican get a rebuilt 223 that came out of a mid 60s falcon does any body know if it will work ,i keep hearing' truck motor''car motor' wont switch anybody out there know. thanks don

 

I am not certain....but believe it will work. I have a 223 in my 53 and the difference may be the oilpan. I know on v8s the oil pan is different...but no big deal.

didn't know they put 223's in falcons . i thought they were all 170's . oh well from what i could find bill is right , just the pans different , and thats no problem since you got the tired one in your truck . a word of advice that i still don't heed myself like i should ... these old motors are getting hard to find some things for , stash the old one in peices or other wise somewhere nice and safe in case ya need a part , especially the sixes as most every one threw 'em away for an 8 . there are several different ford six clubs out here in net land , why not look one up ? from what i have gathered the falcons had 140 , 170 and 200 sixes which are the same as the later 250 six in fairmonts etc. as far as interchangeability . so are you sure it's a 223 in the falcon ???? it's my understanding that none of them will interchange from generation to generation as far as mounts , bellhousing bolt patters etc.. maybe col. flashman or number dummy will be along shortly . would help if you had the no.'s off the new engine .

 

Salutations Duck;

You've a problem here, as Falcons came w/ the 144/170 Special/200/250 family of I-6's (intake/exhauste manifolds & carb rightside of engine, passengerside), compact car engine. The Falcons Did Not ever come w/ the 215/223/262 Family of I-6's (intake/exhauste manifolds & carb leftside of engine, driverside), Mid-size Car & Truck engine.

So if it's a Mid '60s I-6 from a Falcon, it's probably either the 170 Special or the 200c.i.ers & they'll not have the Umph to horse that 1/2 tonner of yours around. You need to cheque to see what exactly the engine is you are dealing w/ is that's for sale.

And by-the-by, the 250 is longer & taller than the previous engines in its family, the 144/170 Special/200 I-6's, so you'll have to cheque on the interchangablility of parts between them.

 

I tried to see where you are./ I have a rebuilt you can get for way less than you can do one. It is out of a 54 F 100. I live in Indiana

aw hades go nuts and swap a warmed up 300 six in it . d-mn things wear like iron and last forever , and can be made to run . i had one with373000 on it and it's still going with the new owner of said truck .

 

Max E.....I may still consider your 223 for my 56. I installed a 272 and am thinking of going 223 instead. I will let you know. Bill

hi guys, the 223 was advertized as coming out of a falcon but i dont think the guy really knew , thanks for all of your help,the 223 in my 55 still runs good but will need a rebuild in the future, till then i'll baby her and get what i can out of her. thanks again from sunny northwest florida.
