Battery Drain Unusual Repair

F350 V10 7700 miles

Battery drains dead in about a week. Done it a few times when not used for a week. I tested it and found a 720ma amp draw. this after i pulled hood light bulb and disengaged the door latch. Pulled fuses and found that the dome/bedlight cluster was the problem. Pulled that fuse and found a 30ma draw. Plugged the fuse back in a disconnected the dome and bed light still a 720ma draw. Replaced the delay timer. No change.

Took it to the dealer for service. All they did was replace the battery. duh... Tested the battery draw right in front of the service manager and showed 720ma draw. He was unimpressed, and clearly had no clue. I quickly gave up on the dealer for help.

I gave it a lot of thought for a few months and driving around with no accessory delays after pulling the fuse out. The other nagging problem was the drivers door needed to be slammed to get it to close tightly. Been that way since new. I finally got sick of needing to slam the door to get it to close tightly. And slamming the door sent my door mirror out of position.

So I decided to adjust the door. Loosened it up just a slight bit. Then after thinking about the door latch and just for the heck of it, I tested the battery drain again. Now it is 50ma with all the electrical components (delay timer, Fuse, bed/dome bulbs) re-installed. Been about a month now and no more problems. Even after not using the truck for 2 weeks.

Now that I think about it....makes sense. The door latch was not closing fully, to trip the switch. So the battery thought the dome light was always on. Problem solved.

Good job! Newer vehicles can be a PITA to diagnose, especially electrical problems.
