I have an early 99 that drains the batteries down in 3-4 days. I have set an ammeter in series and started to pull fuses. After pulling the Gem fuse and glove box fuse, I was pulling 800 mA. I then started pulling Power Distribution fuses. Nothing until Fuse 7. Then dropped to 150 mA. Manual says it is for Dual Alternator "A" field. I do not have dual alternators. I see that Fuse 5 is listed for the same thing as Fuse 7 and Fuse 6 is for single alternators. Does anyone know what else draws from Fuse 7? except a short. I do not have any schematics to tell.... 150 mA seems reasonable for PCM. I did let it time out with the ammeter on and with fuse 7 pulled it dropped to 20mA. Which seems ok for clock and memory. Put fuse 7 back in and back up to 800mA.
History: batteries recharged and load tested good on both.
Alternator about a year ago.
If you are referring to Fuse #7 below the steering wheel (remove lower dash panel to get at it), I believe that it runs the Power Window/Lock Switch Illumination...
My early 99 fuse #7 under the hood is empty.. If you look down in the slots where the fuse tabs go, there are no metal contacts on mine.. Like you say, is for the dual alternator which I don't have either..
Thank you for checking. I am out the door the fasten everything back up and see what does not work with Fuse 7 out. If I don't need it, then why have it...
