I will be running vacuum wipers on my '50 F-1. Unfortunately they are for decoration only. It has been so long since we have had any rain, the trees are following the dogs around.

Mine are still vacuum wipers. Mine work well too. I do not plan on converting to electric. I want the stock look under the hood.

I have a power brake booster and dual reservoir master cylinder under the cab and was having issues with vacuum (not enough), so I added a vacuum reservoir under there too. Now I have plenty for the brakes and the vacuum wipers.

I had them with a stock 351C and a stock 302. They worked fine for me once I replaced the rubber on them. I plan on keeping them with the re-worked 302 but do plan on using a vacuum reservoir also. Just love they way they look when its raining.

I will be buying vac wipers to replace the optional-for-'52 electric wipers. The electrics back then were a poor attempt, mine is burned up, no one makes parts, yadda yadda yadda... It rains infrequently here and I don't make a habit of driving in the rain, so vac wipers are a good choice for me.

Use Rain-X and you probably will never need the wipers anyway. Mine still has it on the windshield from when I did not have enough vacuum to run everything.

Mine work fine also. They worked even better when i went from the 1&1/16" venturi 2 barrel to the 600cfm edelbrock with the smaller primaries

I agree with Brian_B, rain-X is a great product. Use it in all my vehicles. Have been in some pretty good rain and haven't had to turn the wipers on. Of course, if it is a down pour, you will need the wipers. I plan to keep the vacuum wipers just because that's how it come equipped. I may change my mind once I start driving it and get caught in a bad rain. If they are in good working order, they will work ok, of course not as good as modern elect. wipers. I drove many miles with vacuum wipers back in the '50s.

Why spend money for Rain-X when you can follow the same procedure motorists did for 50 years?

Today: Rain-X / Yesterday: Cut-Plug chewing tobacco.

as you all know me my fleet 50 to 56 are under town DPW contract Nov to March
and I HAVE to have wipers. I been around these since I could walk. My 2 cents is
since day one or since new wipers and hoods are the big S. even though they are
electric. I have a big problem with the pivots. My F8 lost the right side last winter, I
even drilled the arm and pinned it. On my F900 so desprite we put to boat wiper motors
overhead so they are not in sync that drives me. My question is I need wipers that
work not today but everyday, not for rain but snow. We all know there is not a lot
of room under there (defrosters) in the way. Imagine this makes me happy wipers that
sweep not slapping and intervals. I had an IH and the wiper arm was held in the pivot
with a nut, beauty, and then what about those cable driven ones. Any thoughts
sam

I'm running vacuum wipers on my 48 and they are quite adequate. I put a tee fitting in my power brake vacuum hose to run them. My original intention was to convert to some kind of electric wiper but I have been pleasantly surprised with how well they work so I'm keeping them...

I do not know if the following will work on trucks, but on 1957/59 passenger cars with vacuum wipers, a popular swap at one time, was using the 1957 Chevy electric wiper motor, which bolted on just like it was made for the application.

Another motor that was a bolt on, was the 1960/64 Galaxie electric wiper motor.

rain-x is the ticket! if needing to rebuild vacuum units, try-- david ficken- trico specialist. I believe he is in long island ny. I have street rod electric on mine, they're ok. problem is that the blade arms are attached to smooth shafts, so heavy snow load will cause slippage. as truck is used primarily in winter, i AM open to a stronger option. so talk to me!
