If you had $500 to spend, what would YOU do? $1000?
I'm looking for suggestions. I want to improve power (and mpg, if possible). I have a '92 Bronco w/stock 302EFI. I don't want to do any internal stuff, mainly bolt-on. What do you think are the best bang for the buck combos I could do for $500 and $1000?? I know it ain't much, but I'm pretty poor!

auto engines are really no more than air pumps. try to open up the air entry into and out of the engine. i would look at the air intake track.a good high flow filter and then look at the exhaust shorty headers and/or cat back exhaust. also check the base timing and adjust accordingly. more rear gear would help performance, but could harm fuel consumption also synthetic lubricants can make a difference in the engine as well as in the diffs. so to wrap up filter, shorty headers, base timing and synthectic lubes.if you shop wisely you should be able to stay under your budget and still have enough for a cheeseburger and fries.

Thanks for the reply - I suppose I should have mentioned - I have the K&N filter setup. With headers, are they smog-legal (I'm in Texas)? I've thought about that, but am concerned about emissions.
About the gearing, I will eventually add a 4" lift w/33" tires, so the gearing would eventually have to be adjusted. But that's later, when I've got more money. Performance/mileage is 1st priority.

i do not know the texas smog laws, but the k&n as well as the shorty headers should be ok. i am a big fan of the mighty 302/5.0l and have them in many of my vehicles. i would have to say that when combined with a heavy vehicle like the full size bronco and large diameter tires the 302 has its limits.

Well, just got my truck from the body shop. I had had it one (ONE!) day when some *******s broke in and stole the stereo, tearing up the door in the process. Looked under it, and it seems to have a relatively new muffler with some BIG *** pipes from the cat back (all welded on). So I guess a cat-back system isn't really neessary, either (whew!). It just gets better and better!
I'm looking at an ignition system, any input on MSD vs. Jacobs? I can get a used Jacobs system for $200. Or a new MSD for $150.
Honestly, it has some pretty good pep, especially compared to my '94 V6 4Runner. But more is always better. So performance-wise, all that's left without tearing into the engine is headers, an ignition system, and maybe a chip?

MSD is the better of the two. I love MSD ignitions and am a big fan they make a great product, get the 6a. I might have one for sale. My old truck was totalled and i took the MSD and the TFI harness off(I just bought it probably 2-3k mi on it). The new truck i'm buying..if it goes through...already has an MSD 6a on it, so i will be selling one if you're interested.

If you had caught me 2 days ago, I'd be all over it - but I bought a 6T on eBay. From what I can tell, the 6T is the same as the 6a, but more shock-resistant. I should be getting it in the next few days. If it doesn't work, I'll send you a message. Thanks!
