I have a 1989 2.9 installed in a 1962 MGA roadster that about half the time starts but stays in the retarded start mode. I have changed the ECU, TFI and ran ground wires to everthing that I think needs grounding. Is there something else that would cause it to stick in that mode. I normally takes 2 or 3 cranks to get it in the run like a scalded ape mode. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Duncan
I have timed it on numerous times it will run good after I crank it runs retarded, shut it off, crank it again several times like this then it locks in the correct advance. I was told that it is set up to retard timing when it is push started on a low battery. It seems to be harder to get it in the correct timing if the engine has not been run recently, low start voltage. It hase driven me nuts for several years now and I have expended my knowledge of how the ecu reads voltage etc. Thanks for your reply.
Well, ignition of '89 2.9 work w/o ecu, but ignition is -10 dgr late.
There is wire from ECU sp.out. Pulses on it are corrected ignition signal (+10 dgr on idling engine)...
If this wire is bad, broken ore plug is lost, engine runs with retarded ignition. to bu sure, run a new wire from ECU to TFI. Wiring diagrams are on autozone.com.....
