Hey everyone, Well I cant seem to get enough of this site. After reveiwing old post I had read about smaller and easier ways to make my x more aggressive looking. First I had read you can put F250 springs on the front and block the rear accordingly to gain around 1.5 -2 inches. Would you be able to run at least 33 inch tires and would it look good or would I be better off going with the 3 inch Donahoe kit with new shocks. What size tires can I run with that kit? Does anyone have any pics? I often decide to order the 4 inch procomp and then find myself not wanting to make it too bigger for an everyday driver.
I have been going around and around as to how I want to lift my 2x4 X. Today I bought a set of take off leaf springs from a SD it gave me a total of 4 in of lift with the 2.5 in block all for $135. Now I need to figure out how I am going to do the front but I recomend the SD for the rear for towing puposes and is not to expensive. I also noticed that the the holes are there for the SD overload spring bumpers. So I am going to try and see if I can get the bumpers ordered
Glad to hear that... The best thing for you to do would be to learn how to use the "Search" function of the forum. Once you learn, you'll open yourself up to an Xcellent source for more info... and I bet you still won't be able to get enough!!
BTW... I have a feeling you have more than enough info regarding spring swaps and suspension lifts.

I have seen hundreds of Excursions, and I think 33's are TOO small on the Ex. 35's look very good, and 37's look great and 40's look awesome! I wouldn't go any smaller than a 35" tire, why spend any $$ if your not making that much difference? The stock 265/75/16 are about a 31" tall so 33's only give you 2 more inches of clearance at your axles. 35's at least will give you 4 more inches of clearance at you axles and look awesome. Check out the link below to see different Ex's with lifts.....Look at all 6 pages of the link below, some sweet Excursions!!
If you are going to tow with your excursion, you really need to factor gearing into your lift, as well as height. If you choose 33 inch tires your gearing will be less effected than 35's. I personally like the 33 inch tires look. Not too much lift to get you there either. my 2 cents.
Stock tires are actually 31.5s so 33s only give you 3/4 of an inch more clearance at the axle and 33s fit most stock 4x4 Xs, with minor rub at full lock. I have 35s and have no issue towing 5k pounds, only towed once more than that still no issues. I love the 35s and would not recommend less.
We do not know what you have(2 or 4WD, 3.73 or 4.30), but if it is a 4wd, 3 inches should allow for 35s although 4 is recommended. I put 6 under a 2WD and 35s are perfect, slight rubbing with stock rims and 35s but recent change (no pics) to aftermarket rims corrected that. I have never heard someone say they wished they went with a smaller lift. If you have 3.73 and tow heavy, stay with 33s or re-gear. If you do not tow heavy, 3.73s are fine. If you have 4.30, go 35s for sure.
Thank you everyone for the responses, First off I should specify my vehicle. I have a 2005 Eddie Bauer 4x4 with the v10. I bought the truck out of state about 5 months ago and feel it is now too small. I dont want to make a monster truck out of it but I certainly want it to look more street happy. I have done some of the basics such as dual stainless exhaust( Magnaflow), front bull guard, billet grill, and many other little things. My wife is afraid for it to be bigger and seeing that she drives it too I think keeping it simple and sweet would be idea. Also I have already purchased some bad *** wheels that I plan to put on after the lift. The wheels are 17 x 9 Helo with an offset of +6 and a back spacing of 5.25 or 5. All those figures don't mean much to me but I hope to get the right set up and yes 35s would be awesome....... with no rubbing. Thanks again Dan
I just bought the Helo 835s Machined Black. +6mm offset puts them in toward center of X 1/4 of an inch making the 5 inch backspacing wheels perfect and the other 5.25 would just stick out 1/4 more past the fenders than the others, also perfect.
Gears? Tow much?
I need to get pics posted (as do you)...where is the **** camera charger
Pics would be perfect. I took many pics when I picked the truck up but cant seem to find them on my disc so I too will post some soon. I just cant seem to get a nice day to get out there and clean my truck up. I hate going more than a week with out giving it a good bath. What do you think about the Donahoe 3 inch kit compared to the 4 inch pro comp kit. Like I said I want it street happy not crazy big. As far as towing, I do from time to time. I pull a small trailer with two -three quads three hours north max. I was thinking about the Mickey thompson atz tires. It just sucks because ordering them out of a catalog is scary because I dont really know if they will fit until the lift and some measuring. Dan
I have a 4" all spring Pro Comp that use a factory rear block, 17x10 4.5bs Eagle Alloys with 35/12.5/17 Pro Comp Xtream All terrains.
It has some rubbing but the ride is firm due to the heavier springs but you dont feel like your going to roll over like the stock suspension, If you want the soft ride go with the Donahoe 3" spring hangers....
I really want to with the Donahoe 5", as for the wife driving She enjoys driving it !!!
Here is a link to some video ( I'm having trouble finding pictures also ).......
