Unhappy Truck Won't Start

Today I installed a set of backup lights onto the truck. I found the wire that feeds the backup lights to the trailer plug and tapped into it.

When I put it into reverse the lights work great.

Truck turns over good so it is not battery/starter. It will just not start.

When I let it sit for 30 seconds I get a symbol looks like a wrench on the display.
Engine turns over fine. Tried both keys also.

Checked all fuses.
No issues found under hood or in cabin…Unhooked both batteries and left them unhooked for 10 minutes.

Pressed the fuel reset on passenger side.

Still same problem

Any thoughts?

Water in fuel. Truck thinks it is in reverse, not sure how the shutoff works on that maybe starter may not. Disconnect wire you tapped into for lights, see what happens. Best I can do

I unhooked the wire I tapped into but no luck.....
Going to leave batteries unhooked longer to see if that will help.

sorry about the truck man. When you unhook the batteries, remember to turn on the headlights too. I dunno if it makes a difference or not, but I've heard it helps the PCM drain electricity completely if there are caps somewhere.

Good luck!

Have you triple checked to make sure the selector is all the way in park? I don't see how the reverse trailer light could cause a no start. If all fuses are good have you checked the fuel filter to make sure you do have fuel there?

Hope the dealer got your truck going today; let us know what they find.

Found this TSB 07-26-2 December 20, 2007

"Some 2008 F-Super Duty vehicles built prior to 8/20/2007 equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power or no start with possible DTC's P0003, P0004 and P0091 caused by circuit CBB12 at the high pressure pump gasket grounding to the high pressure pump body (may also result in fuse 74 being blown)."

Good luck.

Yep, the high pressure fuel pump. They don't actually replace the pump, just the wiring harness; cab off repair....

My build date was 8/28/07 so hopefully this is one I will not worry about.

Worse kind of problem for someone to have as the no start may leave you stranded and sometimes it might be the worst of times or places. Hopefully it will not occur on too many vehicles.

Well...Talk about feeling like a dope!...
Fuse 74 was the culprit....Man I looked at this fuse twice and did not see it blown. Once they hooked it up to the computer they went right to it....
I hate this as I cost a bunch of money because I did not catch this!

They checked to see if it had a ground that would cause this but they did not find one....Will keep some extra fuses on hand and watch this....

Well I'm glad your up and running but I would be a little nervous. When a fuse blows theres usually a reason. Just to be safe I'd write down the number of that TSB & throw it in the glove box just in case. I'm not one to put a lot of faith in coincidence and it sounds like Bob may have diagnosed your problem. Fuse 74 fits. Did they pull any other codes? You might consider checking fuses next time with a multi-meter. Sometimes it's hard to tell if those things are blown.

Keep us posted if it comes back. Here's hoping it was a fluke and you never have any more problems. Good Luck.

No I did not use my multi meter..I'm sure I would have found it if that was the case...Just eye balled it...Guess these old eyes ain't what they use to be as they said they could see it...
No other codes were pulled. I mentioned the TBS and they said they found no ground faults. If it blows again they said they would process it for the TBS....
