I was asking for the year of this truck and now I know the year so I can get the custom part of my 1945 truck started. I am looking for a set of good bucket seats that will fit into the cab, I also need a steering colum to acomadate to the chasis of the 1983 S-10 that it sets on.(The chevy is just for parts prices, would rather have original frame with 302 but I got a deal for this with a 350sb.) So any advice would be great as I am only 16 trying to work on the family farm and at our propane buisness and can be time straing so I am looking for things to go as close to right the 1st time I atempt to do them. Thanks for ANY Help!
These are not my seats, just answering a question, so I hope I'm not breaking any rules posting this.
An auction house in VA that my wife drags me to has some Recaro seats. They are out of a Mitsubishi EVO 9, there are two sets of two front seats, 4 total. I checked them out pretty thoroughly and did not find any rips, tears, or blemishes. They just need a good vacuum cleaning. Here is a picture of the actual seats (one has the back positioned up farther, which makes it look shorter):
Here is what they look like in the car (these are not the actual seats being sold):
The only problem, as they are designed for a 4 door car, the seats do not flip up for behind seat access, but they do have a **** that adjusts the seat back position. They have been there a couple months with no takers, so I wouldn't bite on the first price you're given. If I recall the dimesions when I measured, they were 21" wide. I think they'd probably ship them for you. Any questions call Tom or Jimmy at 540-439-7273. Brooks Auction Transfer LLC 12099 Marsh Rd, Bealeton, VA 22712
We're putting the Recaro bucket seats from a 1986 Mustang donor car into our 1941 pickup and they fit pretty good. Granted, there is NO room between the seats, but it is way more comfy than the old bench seat.
Steve built a rectangular frame from some 2x4 alum square tubing for the seat rails to mount to and that puts it at a nice height. The seats also fold forward for access to behind.
I'm getting close to having my truck drivable but I am trying to mount the box on it but in my case the box leaves very little desire to even move it. Does anybody know where to buy a box with fenders that you can at least bolt on. The only place I have found is here in michigan, northern classic.
Other than paying a lot of cash for new replacement box and fenders, maybe a 48-49 F-! box and fenders will pop up. But even if that happens, a tremendous amount of work probably will be required by you or a body shop to get it close to straight and painted.
all I need for the box is the last cross member in the rear but the fenders are my biggest problem as my grandpa used a torch to "remove" the bolts. And he's not very good at using a torch. And if I can find a fiberglass lid to cover the frakinstein of a bed it wouldn't be so bad.
If you have the old crossmember as a reference, it isnt too hard to fab a new one. That is what I had to do with the front crossmember and rear roll pan. On the fenders perhaps you could cut a new flange and weld it over the old?
My rear fenders were pretty rough especially where they contacted the bed. I cut a large rubber inner tube to match, and sandwiched it between the welting and bedsides. Worked well and cant be seen.
Ok the bed is almost done. I decided to build a new frame for the bed with a piece of 3x6 square tubing in the rear. And I still need to lower it. Now I am looking for all of the trim parts so I can at least get them coming and get started finding other body/trim parts. I'v looked at MAC's,Dennis, and Bob Drake is there somewheres I haven't been to?
