Will a 1941 1/2 T P/U Tailgate fit on a 1945 ford 1/2 t p/u

Hi all,
Well,I am moving rite along on my 1945 ford pickup.
The 1979 camaro stub is welded on the front and getting ready to paint the frame with some special frame paint.
My question is , will a 1941 1/2 ton p/u tailgate fit on a 1945 ford 1/2 ton p/u? I found a real nice one but not for sure it will work. Do they have the same dimensions?
Thanks all,
Lee

No, it will not fit, the '41 has a bed that is 46" inches wide, in '42 Ford widened the bed by 3 inches to 49". Still might want to check though because beds do get switched.

Hello 46fordtruck,
Thank for the reply.
The guy wants $100.00 for this tailgate.
He says it has no rust, rust holes or dents.
But says the top rail has a slight bend to it.
I am going to have to think about this one.
It also is 49 ".
Sounds like a good deal but, what do you think?
Thanks,
Lee

It's not bad, a new one can set you back at least $250. If he's local, even better, no shipping costs. When he says the top rail has a slight bend, I wonder if he isn't refering to the factory bend that Ford put on the gates? The top roll, if you are looking down from top, has a bit of a flattened part in it, so in the middle it's not perfectly round, but a tad oblong. It was a way to increase strength of the top roll a bit. Make sure the eyes that the chain hooks into are installed IN the roll, not under it. The under mounted one is a later gate, '50-'52. Orig had the eye bracket IN the roll.

Hi 46fordpickup,
I am glad you mentioned the eyes that the chain hooks into.
I want to keep the body parts as original as possible.
This tailgate is deffinetly a 50-52 tailgate. The eyes are under the role.
Don't know why I didn't see that.
Thank you for the help.
Thanks,
Lee
