I have a 94 Ford F150, and I had to replace the ball joints. I discovered the u-joints needed replacement also. I can't get the last piece of the front axle out of the differential. It is on the right (passenger) side, and has 2 u-joints. Can anyone help? I would like to finish up before the snow falls here.
The clamp on the rubber boot may be keeping you from pulling the outer half of the shaft. Cut he stock clamp so the slip joint will slide apart.
As for the inner one, you have to drop the pig to remove that stub shaft, just replace that center u-joint working under the truck. Not worth pulling it all apart to do it on a bench. And yea its a pain in the you know what working under there but it can be done.
It is a great Idea to pull the whole diff assembly off the swing arm. You can get all the ***** oil out of the case, check gears and backlash play, and flush the case out. Your front diff can then be reassembled with fresh clean oil. As well as a fresh seal on the face of the housing. This can itself extend life of the unit.
When your in there, you can pull that shaft out (by pulling the c-clip), regrease the slip joint and just re-do the setup properly and not have to worry about it.
